My 1100gs was fine last time out ,went to go out on it today it started & tic's over but cuts out if i touch the throtle :(
Running on both cylinders & changed plugs just in case
air filter ok
all connections clean
any ideas before i set to it on sunday
good job i have the trusty 1200gs started first time & stood for 3 weeks :D

Mark,

I know you say the connections are clean but have you tried taking off the TPS connector and refitting it?

Hall sensor, possibly? Spoke to a guy today who had very similar symptoms on his 1100, ex-The Celt bike, of this parish. Replaced Hall sensor and away she went. Not cheap, mind, I think he said a new one cost him £140?

That would be my guess, mine went in the cold as well.

Price is about right as well.

OK cable's seated ok
hall sensors i think are ok as i have a spark & would expect to loose one cylinder only
i have good fuel pressure @ injectors

The bike will run @ tickover on both cylinders when engine cold but will cut out if i open the throtle
then when warm will not tick over but fires
Ran fine last time out (thinking tps ) unless you have any better ideas :help

will give it a go if i can find the equipment 'do the hall sensors fail as a pair i.e both cylinders affected as the fault affects both @ the same time
My meter is digital ,do you think a bulb will work :o

You have to buy them as a pair if they are faulty. The sensors can be ordered via Farnell for £7ish each but the American suppliers have then listed as out of stock so you're stuck with £140 ish from BMW.

A bulb is no good because the unit doesn't give out sufficient current. You could use an LED though.

That info was just what i needed :thumb got hold of an old meter & did the test as listed which shows (1133 - hall sensor 2) so will try that, any ideas on how to get a cheap sensor or is it £££££ to bmw
Thanks for all the help if i can ever return the favour just ask :clap

The Mad proffesor posted this link at the end of Feb http://users.rcn.com/dehager/service/oilhead_hall_sensors.pdf

It does say that the failure is more likely to be the wiring. Apparently the 1100 had wrong spec wiring fitted. (one up for the 1150 riders :D )

The sensors come through these guys http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/home/homepage.jsp put the component number (from the article) in the search line and tick the "include newarkinone direct ship items" box.

I did a search but the sensors are listed as "out of stock" you may well have to either get a second hand pair or buy the lot new :(

Glad you tracked it down :thumb
