Hi, hope you all had a good Christmas.

On my '99 1100GS I'm trying to find an ignition switched wire. I need it to link into a relay which will power an auxillary fuse box. When I've fitted these previously I've used the tail light supply, but this being an older bike the lights don't come on with the ignition.

Ideally I'm looking for something around the fuse box area so I don't have to trail a cable up to the headstock. The fusebox has that many wires Im not sure which one will be suitable.:blast

Any help would be appreciated.

I`m trying so hard to resist the temptation to use the famous RTFM here. :augie :D

Working from a cider and red wine addled memory,I think you`ll find the green wire with red trace to the flasher relay is a switched live but I wouldn`t use it as a feed to a fusebox taking too much load.

The brakelight switches also have a switched live feed, remember.
I still wouldn`t use that to feed a fusebox though.

I`d use the first switched live off the igntion switch itself....it`ll be easy to test for and find as the connector block is just under the front of the tank on the headstock casting...on the left if I remember correctly.

Or..even easier...why not simply test your original fusebox for its switched supply and loop off that ?

Of course...consulting a manual will obviate the need for much testing....:augie :D

Thanx Tarka.

The switch wire for the relay won't be carrying excessive load, there is a direct feed from battery to relay. & yes..... I did forget about the brakelight!!! (& I'm sober)

Ah yes...I forgot you just wanted to supply a relay coil with the switched feed and then run a load bearing fusebox supply through the relay contacts. :thumb2

Musht drink lesh shometimesh :D

Dont be a dickhead Tarka, if you have to read the manual you have failed !!! you of all people should know that !!

don't know which one in your fusebox, but on my 02 1150GS fuse 1 is switched. Digging into the cables under the fusebox is a pain, so I took my fuse 1 out, dremeleled (is that a word? it should be) a bit of the fuse plastic off and soldered a 6" wire on one of the fuse blades. Installed the fuse with the new wire coming off on the downwind side. Made also two spare ones. Done in 5 minutes and no messing around with any BMW wires in inaccessible areas. I am sure there are other places to get switched power, but i am lazy, this works pretty good and gets me the power were my light relays are installed.
