Had this playing up for a while. My headlamp won't stay on dip all the time and keeps going on and off at will. Main beam is fine. I've traced the problem to the switch on the left handlebar. It seems to be either corroded of simply worn out, I've sprayed loads of contact cleaner on it but not much use.

Is it fairly easy to replace? I can drop the switches easily, just one screw and they pull out. A piece of wiring loom then goes down the bar and under the front of the tank. Am i correct in thinking there is then a plug just under the front that it plugs into?

Basically, what I'm saying is, is it easy to do or not?

Just a thought, ignore if I'm wrong, but... I can't remeber the details, but had a similar problem with mine a few years back. Can't recall if main beam was OK, but dip kept going on/off as you describe. Have you checked your tail light? If it doesn't go off with the dip (mine went when I turned the bars) you're probably OK. But if it does, check the wiring that goes in to the botom of the ignition switch. On mine one of these was broken, due to it flexing when the bars were turned, but was still held together by the insulation, so it worked spasmodically Worth a look..

Dave.

Thanks Dave, but it's not the short ignition loom, definately the switches.

I have a pair of 1100gs switch stuff, left and right, sitting in the shed. Give me a shout if its any use to you.

give sherlocks a call and see if they have any in stock. bought one recently put it on in about ten minutes and all is well. sherlocks = :thumb from me.

Ok, this is what I have.

Got them as spares from Steppers a few years back when he was breaking an 11. Can't remember how much I paid but I don't think it was a lot. Never needed to use them so far so how about I send the left one to Shready and the right one to DM.

Donations direct to to Bens fund from you guys.

PM me your postal and I will get them on their way in the morning.

Hi Noddy,

I'll skip on this, let Shready have the left; sounds like he needs it, whereas I don't actually. My switches are working OK, it's just a vanity thing; with living outside all the time, the writing has faded. Looks crap, and I can't read which switch I'm flicking! :augie

Dave.
