now dont all feint you oilheads but I am seriously considering going the 1100GS route in the very near future !! Why you may ask, well purely coz apparently i can lower it (a la Matron et all) and because I have a 29" inside leg its always a hassle on heavy lumps to move em around.
So advice please on the following:
1. is it just a case of re-drilling the rear supsension
2. Is the standard centre stand ok,
3. How does it affect the handling
4. Does it affect the steering

Thanks all

oh, and if anyone has a late sensible priced well sorted 1100 for sale........ya' never know:D

I have a 30" inside leg and didn't have a problem riding an 1100 GS in standard trim. If you ride it and still think it's too tall what about having padding removed from the seat.

good thought

Bob,
its not a problem to ride it, i'm used to big lardy bikes (1300 Pan) but I want to be able to plant both feet on the ground when 2 up and loaded and if i feel like heading upo some silly track feel that as opposed to being on tip toes I can keep the thing upright if it gets a bit tough. Only big bike i've owned and could put both feet down was a crappy Harley fat Boy, but even though its a heavy thing never had a problem as feet coulod be flat on floor.
So I know Matrons bike was a dream to sit on, just looking at the options:D

I'd definately think about the seat reduction option in that case. It wouldn't be expensive to do and there's so much padding you wouldn't miss a bit, also it wouldn't alter the geometry of the bike.

I also have a 29" inside leg (ooooeerrr missus!) and manage an 1150GS fully-loaded, two-up with minimal problems. Haven't done off-roading, though! Found it a bit daunting for the first two days, then realised a lot of it was mind over matter - and watching where you stop, of course. Beware of the steeply-cambered country roads!
If all else fails, Melvyn Hunter @ Coventry will reshape your seat for you (custommotorcycleseats.com?)

how to Lower a 1100GS

Thanks for the input guys, but so far no one is answering my question, I can manage the bike thats not the problem, hey i ride a Pan for goodness sake. No, I want to know the pro's and con's of lowered bikes, I know plenty of folks have done it and would like feedback on that.
Thanks
