When i bought my 1100GS a few years ago i found the Rear Rack was cracked. It had obviously been repaired and broke at the same point. On removal i noticed the frame had also cracked at one of the welds. All repaired and funcional 
Until my last trip out with Lavvu and wood stove on the back...
Anyway my question im sure i saw a bike on here some time ago which they had made a new one, Laser cut then folded welded etc which looked very trick, does anyone remember whose bike or have stored a picture of it
