1100GS rear subframe bent, now looking for a solution

Hi there,

A car pranged my 1100GS last week and I've just noticed that the frame is a bit bent.

I'm wondering what a good solution to this would be that would't cost the earth?

Ideas welcomed!

They dont seem to cost much used, I fancy picking up a spare to get powder coated.

Which way is it bent? Is the back bent up,to the side or up and to one side.

If it's bent up,it's pretty fecked really,and before you do anything with it,have a check of the gearbox mounts where the frame bolts to it,as they can break.

If it's bent to the side,it can be done.Mine was bent like that,so I put the bike up against a very large brick pillar,and drove my mitsubishi against it so it wouldn't move,the got a 2 inch wide ratchet strap form the back of the bike to the tow bar on the mitsubishi,and bent it back to where it had come from.It takes a couple of goes,but mines pretty close to normal now.If you have the slightest concern about it,then don't even contemplate trying it as it could easily end in tears.

If it's bent up and to one side,get a scafold pole,bend it back level and repeat the above.

If you don't feel happy doing any of the above,go get a new one.I think they're on a couple of hundred quid from Mbw:thumb2

A man after my own heart. I tied mine to the lampost in the street, strapped it to my nissan patrol and pulled it back into position.

I think bmw have a special jig they use.
 
Dont know if you have got sorted with a subframe, but I`ve got one you can have for say £60? I bought it as a spare but sold the 1100, or is it the same as an 1150 one anyway?
 
I'm not saying anything about the lamp post outside my old flat,apart from the fact it didn't like having a Mitsubishi ram it:augie

hello Sir, I would like to investigate the report of a maniac in your street ramming a motorcycle screaming 'die you bastard!DIE!'

I was wondering if you could come along to the station to assist with my enquiries.... i have found a length of chain and leather, think I have a lead

Thanks for all the relevant (and irrelevant :) ) info

I bought the one off Ebay yesterday. 70 quid including postage to Belgium. probably I'll get it blasted and painted before I put it on. It's from a 94 bike and mine's a 95 so hopefully it's the right one.

The existing frame is bent from right hand side on the footrest hanger, as the woman driving turned left across my path without indicating or looking, fortunately I was able to speed up and mostly get past and she only bent the rear frame and number plate, everything else looks ok (I guess I'll find out when I put the frame on!)

I'll keep you posted!
