Hello

I'm a new owner of a 94 1100GS and noticed the sump guard hanging off. It appears that out of the four nuts securing it, 2 are snapped off underneath the rubber bung. Has anyone got any ideas how to get the old nuts out to replace them, or am I doomed ?. Would a Touratech sump guard use the same mounting points ? Many thanks

Simon

Simon, there are mild steel pieces at the base (near the engine) of these mounts. I have found that by using a pair of locking pliers or Pedersen Vice Grips in my case, that I was able to get a grip and undo them.

BMW have Loctited them on so they will have a bit of resistance and possibly a heat gun may be of assistance.

I didn't know that touratech did a sump guard. I have the sump guard extender on my centre stand from Touratech and it is quite good, except that to remove the main guard I have to have the bike on the side stand to remove the sump guard to get to the oil filter.

99 r1100gs - had the same thing happen. Used a set of vice grips and wd40 to get them out.

Thanks for your help. WD40 and mole grips it is. Did you replace them with the same design bolts ?:) :banghead:

Yes, I replaced them with the OEM bolts but didn't use Loctite. They've been there for a couple of years now, so I don't think they'll move!

Got em off after soaking with WD40 and turning carefully with mole grips. Replaced with four new ones that Sawbridgeworth had in stock.

Thanks for your help Gents.
