its good having an exhaust where you can blip the throttle so other road users/animals know that you are coming,maybe some new braided steel hose?,those brake lines could be 13 years old(?)with HH brake pads significant improvement in stopping power,useful when you meet sheep/deer!

Don't agree with all the 'keep it standard' comments but that's their opinion. I have had my 1100 since new- Aug1999 - now has Ohlins suspension which is a great imrprovement, Remus Grard Prix exhaust , which is also great improvement - the bike runs smoother - less surging and fuel ecomony is unchanged.
There are no Y pieces for the 1100 but there are some S pieces out there. My Remus has it's own collector box and it sounds fine - louder but not illegal or anti-socially loud.
The comment about changing the brake line is a good one - do it - Stainless steel on the front is great and you may as well have the rear done for peace of mind too.

Yes i found it quite worrying that so old a bike still had the originals fitted
and that top hose is pretty tight on full lock
Anyone know who has hose sets ready to go....
Over here we are more likely to hit a goat, Reindeer or a moose (two friends have made contact with moose, not recommended) & Hedgehogs are in serious decline here too

Thanks Gecko, a German specialist has also recommended me the Remus and also says the Leo Vinci is good alternative But much cheaper

the urban jungle that is London....Before you buy a pre-made brake line kit,decide if you want to put bar-risers on,made that mistake only to discover the new top brake line was not long enough
If buying a premade kit is the top hose just as tight at full lock as the factory one?

Seconded. The Ohlins shocks massively improve the ride and handling. The stock ones are fine, mind you, but the Ohlins are much better. New seat's an almost must for any distance - at least it is for me!
That's mine - Vern's boxes, TT hardparts, TT steering stop, TT front guard, Ohlins front and rear, powder-coated rear wheel, 1150 handguards, Zumo, Sargent seat. Bit of bling (the TT stuff) but mostly practical changes. Bloody love it!

I only said 'keep it standard' with reference to the exhaust. Problem is for some changing the exhaust has worked well.. but for many its done nothing but open a whole can of worms. You only need to read the many postings in the technical section to realise this. A fair number have tried and failed reverting back to stock.
I too have replaced my rather tired original suspension. also the seat - xxh and screen - Vario. Bar risers. Spots from 'how much'. LED panels from 'Techno' Steptoes headguards. Road tyres and a paint job to finish up (and set the bike apart) The only 'Bling' being stainless Bar ends and Rocker cover bolts.

New seat is moved up to the top of the list. Having covered 1200kms this weekend, i must say the original is terrible............
So what are my options TT one piece, Sargent seat any feedback greatly appreciated

Before you spend plenty of hard earned on another seat, try a sheepskin and/or Airhawk.
I`ve done some big miles on my 1100 with this combination and it`s almost perfect

I swapped for a Lazer on my last 1100, loved the sound and the weight saving (although if the exhaust's not physically in your hands, it kind of gets lost amongst the other 200-odd Kgs...!) but it definitely lost something in the mid-range, which is perhaps what makes these bikes so nice in the first place.
Also, that nice throaty sound is nice around town, but ask yourself again 3 days into a Morocco trip...!

I fitted a set of Goodridge s/s hoses to my 1100 recently - and, yes, they are almost as tight - but being thinner than the standard hoses - and a lot tougher - it won't be a problem, unless you decide to fit risers at a later date.

Was exactly the same price for me to have a set made up so i could fit 'risers' - The ones I had were from goodridge with stainless fittings. I was pleasantly surprised that they were the same price as a ready made kit. 35mm longer on the top line. (the risers are 25mm) The extra 10mm seems to have reduced the amount of flexing of the line at full lock. a good result.
