1150 Adv gear change adjustment

Help please.

Just bought a pair of Alpenstar off road boots, but now cannot fit boot under gear change lever !

Need to move lever up and can see threaded bolt between the two ball joints, but for the life of me cannot see how to make adjustment.

Lock nut moves up and down the thread, but cannot move lever up or down the threaded bolt.

I presume adjustment must be possible, not least because otherwise no lock nut and threads would be needed...any offers please ?
