I have been trying to get the side panels off my bike all afternoon...not the black ones under the tank, the silver pnes that go under the seat.

There is a front screw - obvious. How do you release the rear fastening that is up under the mudguard bit somehow?
I have the seat off, I have been upside down with a torch trying to see how it is fixed...I have only had the bike since 2005, but I have got a mental block because I have had them off in the past. I simply can't, for the life of me, work out how to get the back end released....so much for spending a couple of hours with my Christmas present (industrial strength electric toothbrush for cleaning!)

I must have wasted at least 2 hours trying to work out how ot get these panels off and I haven't got any closer.. :blast The Haynes book is as clear as mud and doesn't offer any real solution either.

The side panels must be aftermarket as they are not fitted as standard. I have the Touratech carbon ones and besides the small black screw below where the mudguard is secured, you may need to loosen the front two M6 Allen bolts which secures the rear carrier to the frame. Then the panels should be loose enough to remove.

Much obliged - they were on the bike when I bought her, as a 2 year old. I shall have to have a closer inspection with the rack fitting removed to see if I can get under there. It can't be much - there isn't room up under the mudguard area for there to be very much! It is a very awkward place to see though, when one doesn't bend very well anymore!

Are they these type?

If so, Touratech USA is the place for the instructions, scroll down to the 2nd page for them in English

Brilliant - thank you very much. I didn't know they weren't a standard section they fit so well and the colour matches the silver.

Each side under the rear luggage carrier are two little brackets that the side panels slide onto. They are secured by the same two bolts that hold the rear grab handle in place. The new owner will want those brackets for fitment.
