Any tips on removing rubber mounts from between the bash plate and the sump guard? I've removed the Bash plate but can't budge the rubber mounts from the sump!

Any suggestions? I've already broke one of the mounts!

It seems the previous owner was a bit of a monkey and did not grease them up when he last did an oil change, they are seized tight, even with a magic spray of WD40 they still won't budge!!

I went down the 'plier and twist' route, and thats how i broke one off! I'm really stumped on this.

I've read a few threads about why the 1150 has two bash plates and no one seems to really know why, other than for extra extra protection. So, I'm thinking about drilling a hole through the inner bash plate, then making a hole big enough to get the sump plug and oil filter out...? Unless, anyone can think of another way for the rubber thing-ma-job-ies out!?

I don't understand this - you've removed the bash plate to change the oil and filter, so why do you want to remove the rubber bungs ? And you've removed the bash plate but not the sump guard ?Both plates come off when the nuts are removed ???.

And why the need to drill the bash plate when it's come off.

I removed the 4 nuts, lowered the bash plate to find the sump guard, the 4 bolts are showing with rubber mounts at the base...now, I can't remover the inner bash plate, the bolts are seized tight in the sump and the rubber mounts simply give way and break if I apply to much force to undo the bolts...comprende??

the plate mounted above the rubber mounts....I can't get it off!

No i think you need to comprende :D

Once the 4 nuts have been removed BOTH plates are free to be removed.

I'll now leave you to it. :thumb

errr.....ok. The top plate is solid, simply will not budge. I assumed the bolts above the rubber need unscrewing?
I thought that either side of the rubber bit was a threaded bolt, with the bottom end going through the bash plate, through the crash bars and onto the nut. And the top half goes into the bottom of the sump?
The bolts will not move, only bend slightly due to the rubber giving way

I can assure you there is a plate above the bungs, not sure if its meant to be there but it is.

The diagram in this thread

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134753

part 2 is the plate, and part 3 is the rubber thing!

That diagram is for an 1100 - And isn't as clear as it seems.

There is nothing inbetween the two genuine standard BMW 1150 bash plates, they are sandwiched together.

The 1150 ADV has a single plate. Which the crashbars ( if fitted) also attach to.

I must have a rogue 1150 then, there is defo 2 plates, and I simply cannot get the 2nd of the two off.

Interesting… On my 1150 both the sump plates are together and NOT seperated by the rubber mountings.

However I have just taken a look at the Parts Fiche on Max BMW site and looking at that it shows it the way you are describing.

Has someone fitted the inner plate close to the engine (above the rubber bolts) and thus sandwiched the inner and outer bashplates between the rubber threaded bolts??

If so................the previous monkey owner has fitted the 2 sumplates completely incorrect:blast

That's the only thing I can work out....................some pics would help

Go get your camera out and report back:augie

Seems odd how yours is different, The diagram matches exactly what I have got, with parts 3 & 7 being the problem

Looks like you may just have to use force then. Maybe we have all got ours on wrong then, mind you does make it easier to get off though..

Good luck..

I think Jonnyboxer has hit the nail on the head. Which would also explain why Steptoe is telling me the 2nd plate should drop off with the first.

How do I get the 2nd plate off? I cannot turn the rubber threaded bolts without snapping the rubber...hmmmm???
