After only 14K miles,i'm surprised the belt shredded as well.As a service item,BWM say change it at 36K miles.rokraider said:What has happened is the alternator belt has apparently shredded and taken the timing plate with the Hall Effect sensors with it. Apparently it has also broken a piece out of a pulley?? Is this a common occurence? It seems odd that it should have shredded the belt, it has only done 14,000 miles and doesn't exactly have to work hard for its living. I am suprised it has shredded, that would indicate contamination from a foreign object or something running out of line.![]()
My belt lasked 47K and is still good enough to use as a spare.
I would guess the problem is in the pulleys as well.Replace the damaged one and have a good luck at the other pulley for signs of damage and check the pulley alignment with a straight edge.
