Maybe a bit of a daft question (in light of different usage) but what do people feel is an acceptable mileage to buy an 1150 before you would be looking at having to change major parts or put another way what sort of mileage are they good for 25K, 50K, 100K .......

i guess that depends to some extent how the previous owner(s) treated the bike?!

I've had my 2000 1150GS since 10/04, bought it from a BM dealer with 26k miles on the clock. It's now done 57k miles, and the only 'biggie' was the ABS unit. Would have cost me new £1200 fitted (gulp), but got a second hand one from J Sherlock, so the lot cost me £270. Everything else is fine. I think there are a number of postings on this site referring to bikes which have done close to 75k miles without major issues.

Mines done 50k now. Had a replacement Gearbox at 30 odd k but that was the previous owners problem. I would not worry because spares are always around and if you do some looking they are usually fairly reasonable. Those guys in Germany have thousands of boxer engines and gearboxes.
Stop ya frettin

Just keep using it,and see what breaks.I've been trying to kill my 1100 for nearly ten years now,and it still won't die.

Having said that, the headlight bulb blew yesterday.Pile of crap:rolleyes:

When I was unsure whether to buy an Adventure, I borrowed a standard 1150 GS (ie not the Adventure) just to see how I got on with it. Even though the bike had done 90,000 miles IIRC it still felt rock solid, inspired confidence and certainly didn't sound or feel as if it was on its last legs. Knowing the owner it would have been "used but not abused" in other words it would have been looked after but not wrapped in cotton wool. As soon as I got off it, the decision to upgrade was made.

I'm going to see if I can get my current 1150 Adventure round the clock. :thumb

Sold my loan bike and it had done 99,750 miles -

Wanted to ride it over the 100K mile mark, put it up for sale expecting to have it for a while, but sold it the next day :( .

Nothing wrong with it when i sold it. If it's the right price, i'd buy any mileage GS.:thumb

I was told by a guy at SPC once about a club in the USA where membership is only open to boxer twin owners with 100k+ on their bikes. I never bothered to try and find it on the web, anyone know if it exists or is it just a tall tale ??

83,000 miles out of my yellow 1150GS and then 60,000 miles on my 1150 Adventure. Both running sweeter than when new, didn't use any oil... no problems at all!

Maybe I should have kept them eh :)

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback gent's.
No need to worry now as I have just traded my 1200 for an 1150 adventure with only 6.5K on it no ABS, so hopefully should give some trouble free running for a few years

Before you ask I had no real issues with the 1200 other than I didn't like the feel of the Servo/ABS brakes.
