As some may know, I are an injineer, so a noise I dont understand is a Mind F..ck to me, the noise is not particularly noisy, actually can only hear it at tickover in first and second when rolling, it sounds like clutch area but not sure, it has always been a bit rattly around the clutch, but gonna check it all before I pull the box, I did Gearbox bearings a year or so ago, not big mileage since:

She is a 99 model with 80k odd miles on it much of which was off tar...

1. no noise at standstill engine running
2. no change in noise with clutch in or out
3. turning rear wheel on stand no driveshaft noises
4. turning front wheel on stand no noises (checking everything)
5. front cover off pulleys tight
6. gonna check tappets tommorrow when cold
7. then gonna pull the drive shaft then the box then the clutch etc....

This was the spline condition at gearbox strip

Vark, I could just ride it........ it is running Strong and settled so maybe just ride and wait :blast

Take more than that for me to start pulling it apart, boxers always present noises, rumbles & knocks to worry us, ignore it and ride with ear plugs, you'll get much more warning if something's going to go bang, mines had sounds like that for the last 10k that I have owned it, the previous one was the same, so has me mates, used to drive me mad, but now just ignore it, always keep an eye on changing gear oil for debris.

Heading down that route, gearchange is 100%, clutch 100%, motor 100%, it has sounded worse before and I left it, ok will pull drive shaft and stop there ....

So, I strained the gearbox oil..... nada nothing to report, refilled the gearbox and rode it, no noise??????

Ah but also no bashplate fitted ::) ::) One bash plate rubber was damaged but not fully broke?

I have now fitted bashplate and will test later to see if I have a noise 8)

I have a big Mutha of a bashplate in 5mm aluminium, maybe that was touching something?

So the noise was still there and driving me nuts, only audible at low speeds and revs, pulled starter, to see clutch all good, pulled drive shaft, got it....... the rubber joint in the drive shaft looks iffy and marks on outside from touching the LHS pivot pin.... so found it at least...
