1150 GS ADV, beauty or beast?

First time I saw the ADV I was amazed and couldn`t decide what to think of it. Was it a beauty og simply the ugliest MC I had ever seen? I couldn`t get it out of my head though, and went to a dealer here in Norway for a test run. At the time I was riding a Moto Guzzi California (a real nice bike indeed). The ADV was surprisingly easy to handle and I fell in love with it right away. All autumn I have browsed the net in search for pictures and information about the bike. I guess you could call it an obsession? Well, now I am the happy owner of a 03 ADV and have had a couple of runs with it. It`s still a bit cold, but what the heck... I live south/east in Norway and there has been hardly any snow in this area, so it is possible to make some local trips. My conclusion as you may have gathered: it`s a beauty!

Good choice Norseman,

i had a comment the other day that my Adventure is that ugly its beautiful.

Did you get the Silver Bullet or the Boring Black one:D

Hi Jack! ;)
I picked a Silver, but you know, as long as it is an ADV... Lucky you to have quite a lot off space doin` the off-road thing down under...

What you mean ... beauty?
It is as UGLY as F*ck. Only it's mother loves it. From the front it looks (quote) like a duck on drugs, and from the rear like a beached whale with a warning cone shoved up it's a*se.

Do I love it...hell yes and it has made me blind. Is it beautiful? Only the engineering and ride. This beast has no skin.

First time I saw the GS ADV, I knew I would be riding one.
My 2005 GS ADV looks and rides great.
Wish we had the riding space over here like you do in the outback!

You are complaining about the riding space in the states, you should try living in the UK it would make you (whatever the word is which means fear of enclosed places).

I love the look of my GS mainly cos nothing else looks like it. :)

I know exactly what you mean. For years I used to think that the Adventure was one of the ugliest bikes known to mankind. But in just 2 years, I now own one and would not change it for any other bike. It can't be just the ride that changed my feelings towards it - as I had fancied one for a while, before I'd even sat on one, so I can't explain it. It might look "quirky" but it seems to add to its character.

Here is my Ugly and Dirty Beast...I love it to bits ,i can go anywhere on here,I will be passing through Norway in the second week in June,so if your about maybe we can meet up for a Drink :beerjug: Dazzer

Hello Dazzer!

Yeah, that is really ugly! What are your travelling plans? Maybe we could meet somewhere... Hopefully I will be on the road somewhere at the time.

Norseman

Hi Norseman.
I leave Tallinnon the 11th June, for Helsinki.we then ride North to Rovaniemi ,from here we head south west through Sweden to Trondheim.
We leave Norway on the 19th June from Kristiansand.
So if your out and about maybe we can meet up .There are 4 of us,One on a Dakar, one on a 1150GS,one on a 1200gs,and me on the Adv.
We spent two weeks in Norway last year, covering 4500 miles, and loved it, thats why we wanted to return this summer.

That seems to be a nice journey! When you get to Trondheim you should avoid E-6 to Oslo. That`s a bore... If you have time, go west! There are lots of ferries and twisted road so you can`t be in a hurry. The scenery is beautiful and the roads give lots of riding pleasure. Try something like this: From Trondheim to Molde on "Atlanterhavsveien" (The Atlantic Road) (Ask Gussi, he lives there!) From Molde via Åndalsnes, through "Trollstigen" to Geiranger. This is probably the most spectacular mountain pass in Norway. From Geiranger take the ferry to Hellesylt and just move south. You can visit Bergen, the "Capital city" in West-Norway. Stop at "Fiskebryggen", the local fish market, have some smoked salmon and maybe meet some other bikers... From Bergen you can keep west and take the main road via Stavanger to Kristiansand. Another possibility is via Odda to Haukelidseter (E134?). Then turn south towards Valle in Setesdal and straight down to Kristiansand. This alternative brings you up to around 1000 m over sea level. Either way, these are great rides. If you have a break at an intenet cafè, you can mail me your location and maybe we`ll meet. Have a great ride and welcome to Norway. Sorry I don`t have a map in front of me so I can`t give you the road numbers. My e-mail adress: [email protected] And at last this advice: avoid exessive speeding, the fines in Norway are astronomical and sadly the Police is spending a lot of their time doing speed controls... You can check out this site for some video footage from some of these roads.www.roadmc.com
