Hi All,

Bit of advice or a pointer in the right direction if anyone can help a all - any comments welcome!

My 2005 GSA with ABS has been playing up a bit after the winter, the RID was flashing different displays on the oil temp (generally under reading) and the fuel gauge stopped working completely. I finally diagnosed the battery was on its way out so replaced with new BMW original and swapped out the RID for a spare one I had from a few years ago - cleaned all the connectors as well but blow me down... the oil temp is a bit more stable but with a full tank the gauge now shows empty (no bars showing) at all, but run the bike for a bit and as the tank level drops the gauge kicks in - methinks that's a tank float problem rather than a RID problem - any views.

Wonder if anyone knows how to run diagnostics on the RID I have tried searching for part number for the RID are they still available?

Have you got HID lamps fitted? if so this could be affecting it do a search and move the ballasts if you have. Sounds like the float is sticking in the tank take it out and have a check, how does the oil temp fluctuate? these things don't get too hot anyway so a bit of a clearere description of the symtoms would help some experts (not me!) to advise.

have you cleaned the connector for the fuel tank sender ?

It sits on the RHS under the removable plastic cover, I believe that can give erratic reading for the fuel if manky ?

or

Take the fuel sender out the tank and move the float through it's range to see if it's maybe got a blank spot on the slider, if no blank spot then it could be the float's getting stuck ? though it would be a bit strane for the float to get stuck when you haven't disturbed it, but you never know

Hi Dave, Yes I do have but its always been on the bike and is mounted on the RHS well away form the RID - its a touratech setup with the ballast and kit on the inside of the frame far right?

Hi Roddy, yes I did - I gave it a good clean out and fitted a new (well spare) RID yesterday.
