I've read on here that its advisable to change the poly belt at 30k rather than the 36k schedule.

My 30k is due soon ... is that the case ... or should I wait?

And by the way, WTF is the poly belt?

The poly belt hides behind the plastic cover at the front of the header pipes it's basically a fan belt but as there is no fan on the engine it's a poly belt (to drive the parrots :P) . It's the elastoc band that connects the engine to the alternator that charges the battery when the engine runs.

Take off the 4 allen head screws that hold the plastic cover on.
Look for and signs of fraying or obvious wear on the belt (residue bits that have worn off etc) . Try and turn it through 90 degrees. (You shouldn't be able to go past 90 degrees)
No signs of wear leave it alone but it's a 3 bolt job to loosen the alternator slip the belt off (cost 9 quid) put new one on an tension it up . Probably about the same degree of difficluty as changing the spark plugs.

Thanks for the explanation, Gecko. Even I understand that.

Don't think I'll try fiddling with it tho.
