Alternator belt change

Morning all,
Looking to replace the alternator belt, searched and found this and a couple of other threads, confused me - 3 different lengths and 2 types of belt.

I found this on another site and it cleared things up - hope it helps. :thumby:

It's very simple. If you've a 1100/1150 just fit the earlier 611 belt.

If you've a 1150adv and you fit the 598 belt the fuel tank will be close to the engine, and you may not be able to pull the fuel tank link pipe through the available narrow gap, which means removing the alternator belt just to remove the tank.
Using a 611 belt has the tank higher so it's not a problem, and you don't need any special tools to fit it. .

Got it, ta - 611 it is. I was mostly confused by the later elastic belt. Not relevant, it turns out, for my 2001 1150.

Posted the BMW bulletin as I thought it may help those whose bikes are "on the cusp" - especially as the bulletin says "after the introduction of the elastic belt, some engines still had to be fitted with the poly-V belt because of supply issues" :eek

Cheers,
