As per the thread title, my GS has been laid up for a couple of years and I've discovered on getting it back on the road that the rear preload adjuster knob has siezed. Before I whip the screw out of the top of it, dismantle, clean and grease it, can I safely assume that there is nothing in there under pressure or tension? Ie, the shock isn't going to degas, or some spring isn't going to fly off and dissapear into the darkest recesses of my garage, to be adopted by mice or spiders?

Its just a knob :thumb2 though some of them have a little ball and spring detent in there, so watch it fly

Little trick to dismantling things with small ball bearings and springs is to place the item in a largish clear plastic bag and dismantle them in that. Gives you at least even odds of finding the parts that fire off.

Oh yes - the spring and ball...

I searched the garage floor for hours to find that little bastard

Guys thanks for the comments. I'll strip this coming weekend and make sure that I am prepared for the inevitable ping****it moment.:)

Be carefull when you reasemble. Its possible to overdo the the lube and turn the bolt into a pneumatic ram. This will then strip the threads. Dont ask! :augie
