Hi, broke down on dual carriageway tonight, seems like a fuel problem, need to go an pick bike up later with trailer, any obvious ideas, quick remedies? i have heard of fuel relays packing up, are there any fuses that might have blown?

changed coil plugs recently and new spark plugs so know that isn't problem, took plug out and no smell of fuel whatsoever, so think it is probably fuel related.

Any help would be welcome
thanks

When you turn on the ignition can you hear the fuel pump prime ?.

Check if the bike starts when you get back to it and it's cooled down. If it does start and then stops again once it's warm/hot it is almost certainly the hall sensor.

Why not Give Neil a phone and drop it by??

Cheaper than a big bag of cheap things and a delightful Bedside manner :D

In all seriousness He probably will have a remedy 10 mins after you arrive if not beforfe you arrive

Good Luck

Exactly.
You live in the sophisticated south, conveniently close to Steppers - it'll probably save you a heap of faffing around.

Hi Got the bike back, fuel pump is trying to prime but sounds dry to me, wonder if there is a filter blocked, plenty of fuel in tank, pump is ticking which it hasn't done before.

1150gsa broken down

Hi, does any one have any advice on getting a workshop manual for a 2003 gs1150 adventure?

Have seen a download from USA, can't seem to find a haynes or clymer anywhere for this model.

That could indicate a fecked pump...
I don't know if there is a procedure (there should be) to measure the pump for correct voltages...
Mind that GS fuel pumps are cooled through the fuel so they do prefer your bike not running many times on reserve.

There is a haynes manual for the GS1150.

Test the pump. Open up the tank take out the pump and apply 12v to it to see if it moves fuel and sounds right. Ovbiously don't blow yourself up :blast

Probably easier to take it to steptoe and let him blow himself up :)

PM Whatton, he can point you towards a service manual. At least he could a couple of years ago.

Hi, I have checked the fuel pump fuse and relay, they are ok, I swopped the relay with the one next to it as it was the same, no change. I have checked for a spark at plugs and there is a spark, I don't think I can hear anything from the fuel pump, so am wondering if this is the problem?
Any ideas anyone?

My best guess would be the hall sensor - there's a test where you turn the engine over using the back wheel with the ignition on (or something like that) - you should hear the fuel pump activating.

I'm not sure of the exact test - hopefully someone who knows it will chip in.

Fault

have a look in the font of all wisdom it will all be there some where, when I fist put knobblies on my front wheel it made a real noise.

Hi, I have a spark when turning over, all lights on with sidestand up or down. No noise from pump even when ignition on and turning back wheel, fuse and relay for pump ok.

Am i right in guessing Hall sensor?
