Hi
I owned a 1150 GS for 3 years but sold it and bought a 1150 GSA, I have had it for a month.
I am only getting about 200 miles out of my 30ltr tank.
I have balanced the throttle bodies and the bike seems to be smooth and sweet.
It shows no signs of burning anything other than too much fuel.
I have searched the forum for clues and agree with most comments about consumption being 10 mile per ltr.
The bike appears to be all OK. It has me flumexed :nenau
Any ideas welcome.

I have no idea and this may sound b*llax but are the fuel pipes OK linking both sides of the tank together?

PS
You didn't import the bike from Columbia did you?

Check for leaks from the fuel pipes leading down from the tank & quick connectors aren't weeping.

You say you are due to check the plugs, if it is running that rich it would probably stink of fuel and the plugs could be fouled. I get 45 - 50 mpg out of mine which is about 180 - 200 miles on a standard tank (until the light).

Does it have a lumpy idle? did the previous owner have a remus on it and now it has a stock can? - potentially is the fuelling mapped differently (shouldnt be an issue as it is a closed loop system with a lambda sensor for control) :nenau

Steptoe will be along shortly.

Fuel pipes are as they should be.

Bike came from south Yorkshire is that near Columbia?

A recent post ...

... on here suggested that a failing coil pack sent their fuel consumption through the roof; as the bike will still run ok(ish) it might be worth checking :comfort

A failing coil pack, to give that degree of fuel consumption, would be very VERY obvious.........the problem wouldn't be described as fuel consumption, it would be about the running/farting/stuttering, especially under load.

My money's on the TPS........I bet it's reading .8 or above as it is now.

Raggitash....is your exhaust sooty?

(fnaaar fnaaar, let's get that over with right now :blast)

Ooh arr sir
Naw the exhaust and gasses look ok, and as you say there is no farting etc.
Bike is smooth and accelerates without issue, not overly lumpy or surging at any revs at all.

My 1150 using excess fuel was down to a fuel injector with a poor spray pattern. Took some dyno time to diagnose though, replaced both injectors and was back to 50mpg. :beerjug:

I sent both of my injectors off to the local ASNU cleaners today.......I'm seriously hoping for radical improvements in running and MPG......I'll be reporting back when I've refitted them :thumb2

Cleaning/backflushing, new o rings and spray patterns checked, £15 a unit plus insured postage....cheaper than one second hand unit.....well worth a go :clap

When I had my 1150GSA It was going 300m with 30L , tested myself !
I went from London to Lake District , exactly 300m then my light came on, mind you , I was riding at 70mph on the 6 gear motorway nonstop !
Now it depends how is your riding stile and where you ride , after all the 1150's are not town bike's .
I totally forgot to mention that I had my bike serviced religiously and never let me down one's in 5 years of ownership and done over 45k m !
Oh I regret so much for give her away to a lovely home :)

Off topic who is the gentalman in yor avatar?

Just as an aside, I though mine was using too much, discovered that I was never putting more than 25-28 litres in on a fill - actually doing 45mpg (10 miles per litre, as others use as a reference check) all the time.

If I fill up the bike on centre stand, and take care with the last few litres, I can always get another gallon or so in...just have to be feeling strong gutting it off the stand!

Probably no relevance at all to OP...

50mpg?

Never seen anything like that from my 2002 single spark GS Adv. For the last couple of years it has averaged 39.3, and that's on Super Unleaded. I generally get the fuel light on at between 170 and 190 miles (30 litre tank).

Mind you, I get 5-6k out of a rear Tourance and 10-12k out of a front one, rather than some of the high mileages bandied about here.

These figures may be linked in some way...

Mike

Check your tps
OK did the tps then went Inverness achnasheen Gairloch Ullapool Inverness and others, a round trip of about 250 miles and still have at least 30 to 40 or more miles left in the tank ( Second lowest bar on gauge )
Problem solved :clap
Thanks lads for the input :bow

What a day it was.

Cheers Raggi

throttle position sensor on the left throttle body, dont mess with it if you dont know EXACTLY what your doing and dont believe everything you read on US web sites!
