Hi
I have a 2005 GS Adventurer, The major problem i have with it is the peeling of paint on the hubs as well as the fork brace and trailing arm which the front Shock sits on and finally the paint is begining to bubble on the metal at the final drive end. I have had this looked at by a proffesional powder coating company and they gave the reason as to why this is happening as the metal had never been primed properly, So here is the dilema do I spend a considerable amount of money having the powder coating done including rebuilding the wheels or do I change and buy something like a FJR 1300 on nought percent finance with a 2yr unlimited mileage guarantee, My bike at present has done 28000 miles, This is my Dilema any advice would be heplfull.

Clearly out of warranty but have you tried BMW for an out of warranty good will claim on some of the bits at least?

May not get you anywhere but worth a go :nenau

I see Steppers is in Especially Diplomatic form tonite!

They all go like that Sir! Especially if you don't keep the salt off them! Period!!!!

It happens to them all and the only way it won't? Is to wash and clean it well and lock it up in the garage the night that the gritters are due to come out and plug it into the optimate and only bring it out when they go back to sleep in the spring

Clean it up remove flakey bits and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve with a well prepped surface and etch primer and Silver VHT on the engine and Silver wheels and lacquer on T'other bits

The only other way is a winter prep and apply a suitable protectant layer

My Favourite is Vaseline like we used on the trials bikes for the bog sections,

Clean and wash and let bike dry

Put Family size vaseline in boiling water in a bowl or a pan in garage (even better if you have a portable stove to keep the heat in it,) Obviously paying attention with a naked flame or heat present!!!

USe a half inch soft paintbrush and apply a very minimal layer over the surfaces to be protected, the Vaseline will be a clear liquid and you can get a very thin layer

Obviously keeping it off brake discs or important control surfaces

Run all winter, washing (No detergent) and checking vaseline still working Steam clean in Spring and the Bling should "Bling" again!
