1150 gsa sat nav mounting

Can anyone shed some light on how they have fitted their sat nav to the bike. I'd like it to fit on top of the cock pit and not on the bars if possible. But i cant seem to find a place to fit it,

I've had the Migsel mount on the clocks to mount above the speedo, but unless you have Tobinators it fouls the screen

I have found the best solution (for me) is to replace one of the 4 handlebar clamp bolts and re-fit with a RAM ball specific stud mount, which doubles as a handlebar clamp bolt

That gives you a RAM Ball mount and you don't have to attach one of those nasty clamps to the bars, which will mark the paint

I then use a RAM arm and a diamond RAM mount to the SatNav cradle of choice

Wiring.............I use a BMW plug on the end of the SatNav power lead and then plug it into the power socket on the beak

So when not in use, I disconnect it, so no potential power drain issues

If the bike is parked out overnight (touring) I pop the SatNav power lead socket, in a plastic freezer bag and stuff it behind the bars/beak

Simple solution and if I want to go without SatNav I just undo the RAM arm bolt and remove the lot in 10 secs

Best of all worlds

I was going to fit an Mra vario screen and tobinators.If so will i get away with fitting the Migsel mount and would you know where i can get one?
I prefer the sat nav totaly away from the bars and if its under the screen its better for weather protection.

NB - the SatNav (I have a big 2610) doesn't obscure the dials when you're riding the bike - it's just the angle of the 2nd pic

if you're going with Tobinators have a look at the Rugged Road mount bar

I have one and it puts the satnav in a the ideal location above the clocks

I made one.
I wanted to fit it above the clocks using something stronger than the plastics.

I have picked up on the two bolts (each side) that mount the windscreen plus an additional steady on the top of the instrument cover.

I made a wooden former, cut in the shape of the instrument pod to bend the aluminium to shape.

Works really well with virtually no vibration. Its powered through the bike sidelights so on, and off with the ignition.

I've just got to decide now whether to paint it black or silver, or leave it polished.

I use a Migsel without torbinators on my GSA, using the ramball mount that comes with the Zumo 660 and it clears the screen with lots of room to spare, might be different for the Zumo 550.

I've had the Migsel Mount, but it didn't work for me as I like a clear view of the clocks and road ahead

Where I have it now, is easy to see and for me, I can power from the auxillary socket and in 10 seconds I can remove the lot for local rides or security reasons, no hardwiring or permanent fxtures

I like the build on that newer Migsel mount with articulating mount. I have the original Migsel with the ram ball and while it is a great spot for the GPS I found that during the day, especially on bumpy or gravel roads, it started to drop down from vibration. (Zumo 450)

So it went back to a ram ball/arm mount on the bars.

Not sure if helpful but I got a length of 20mm conduit bent it to shape and hammered the ends to fit on the tobinators and sprayed it black......Bloody perfect, Even the guy at bahnstormers asked where I bought it
