Just been down to get my mot
The tester a really nice guy
Pointed out my dip headlight deflects to the wrong side
Nobody else has spotted this the bike has been looked after by a BMW dealer and tested by them
It's the special edition the speedo is I'm mph
Can anybody advise if the headlamps are correct registered from brand new in the uk
As far as I know no accident damage no receipts for headlamps
He deflected the beam for me by masking the glass
Bit of a poor do if the dealers didn't spot it
Any advise from bike testers always welcome

There's a section in the small maintenance handbook which describes how to alter the unit for left or right dip.
My bike was originally German registered and has the unit turned to suit the UK. (The rectangular bit of clear glass now sits at an angle of about 30 degrees)

Mine too.

I looked up the part numbers, but it shows only one part number for it. Is there such a thing as a left and right hand drive version? If so, why aren't there two different part numbers? If not, can the glass be rotated to rectify the permanent squint my GS has?

Yes they are two different parts. it depends if you have the left or rhd lamp.
But both can be rotated to suit and you can have the squint.:D

The easy way to check is to look at the light from the front.

If the rectangle in the centre is horizontal and the beam is throwing the wrong way, then you have a continental light unit.

If the rectangle is at an angle, then you have a UK unit and you just need to loosen the clamp and rotate it so that it is horizontal.

No so.

Even though they are adjustable, BMW make a RHD and a LHD lamp. This was discussed ages ago on here when someone noticed his beam was correct for the UK, but the rectangular part of the lens was on the piss. Turned out to be an imported bike...

Be careful running it with masking tape on too. My mate masked his for a continental trip we went on and it caused the glass to o/heat and crack

I had the continental model GSA bought in the Middle East. Back in Blighty, a mph speedo off eBay fitted and a turn of the headlight cup as per the manual instructions and wallah, passed the MOT. I was told the light beam path was spot-on.

I think that's what I said. If the rectangle part is horizontal and the beam is throwing the wrong way, then the light unit is for continental. However, if the OP looks at his light and the rectangle is at an angle, then it is the correct unit, but has been turned for use on the continent, and all he has to do is undo the clamp and rotate it so that the rectangle part is horizontal and it will throw the light correctly.

Ok - I think I said it more clearly... :D

I'll SECOND that, I had the same issue. RIP that tape off immediately. :blast
