My local BMW Dealer - Motorrad Central (East), Dalkeith - charged me £394 for a 24,000 mile 'Inspection' on my '04 1150 GSA.

They don't do MOTs, so I had that done elsewhere - £28.50.

Similarly, John Clark BMW, Dundee, charged £450 for the 24,000 mile service on my '03 K1200GT.

Expect to pay around £400 for a major service from a main BMW dealer.

Bob.

it just seems soooo expencive, yet i pay. why? because there aint any decent independants round here with bmw experience, as i found to my cost.
so its either do it yourself, or bite the bullett.

ouchhh

Who have you tried and why did they not impress you?.
I'm also looking for a decent independent in the area.

Have you tried http://www.scriminger.co.uk/10380/info.php?p=6&pno=0 in Sleaford. (ok - I know 25 miles away...)

BUT... they just might be a bit more competitive than BMW and so worth the journey.

I use this chap - http://www.ifixyourbike.com/mobile-motorbike-services-about-us.php for all the tasks I'm not prepared to D.I.Y.

Have a day in Nottingham... and your bike serviced while you 'see the sights' LOL. seriously though at £30p/h he seriously undercuts Piddlycocks.. and no 6 week wait for a 'slot'.

Does anyone know how much Steptoe charges? I just got quoted £450 and £425 from two dealers for my 1150GSA, only on 14.5k miles but needs the four-year inspection.

What are your opinions on the worth of a fullBMWsh? Do people care as long as its had a good independent?

Many thanks

Carl

Although bmw service history is nice to see.. given the choice between say... a 3000 1100 with history and a 2500 1100 without - but with receopts to show regular oil changes and obvious signs its been well fettled i know which i would choose... problem is though not everyone knows enough about these bikes or the kind of owners 'some' bikes have - to make that same judgement.

a home or independant serviced bike would probably sell better on this site than another... Ebay even... with the right write-up. But apart from that... your average newbie to bmws would probably steer clear. and go for full history.

Thanks Ash and all of you for all your help:)
I contact Steptoe but not at the right time ,,Sorry Neil'' and I think he came out with the best price:clap but I have to go same where else to have my MOT done:o

Twin spark ?? servo brakes ?? different prices for different models. From £190 to £220 includes a free loan bike - and that includes absolutely EVERY fluid changed ;)

Much obliged.I think i'll give scrimingers a try;they aren't too far away.:thumb2

I have heard of scrimingers, i think they are also aircraft engineers:eek: apparently top notch:thumb2

but for the price of mr steptoe, i may make a 300 mile round trip and still save 100 quid.:)

won't regret it, not only is he a bloody good mechanic but a bloody nice chap to boot.:thumb

yer right ya no:bounce1

just a thought, and maybe i will ring tomorrow cos i have a r1100s that is coming up for se£vice.

just a thought... how long does a bike have to 'stand' and cool down after a long... say 150 mile ride. So that the valves can be adjusted accurately?

Another vote for Steptoe. Not only is he very good value but he is extremely knowledgeable and you know your bike will be returned running perfectly.

Good value and top quality. Worth the long journey everytime.

When they arrive hot, i get them straight onto the bench draining all the oils, while thats going on i have my breakfast, post some bollox on here.
When i go back out all the oils have drained, i do other bits and then the engine has usually cooled enough to check valves, couple hours after starting :thumb

And todays job has just arrived from Cambridge.

My 1150 ,2000 model will soon need its 12,000 service.Do the valves definately need checked? Otherwise i was just going to change the fluids e.t.s myself.
