Just a quick question.
How big is the aluminium top box, ie litres?
And can you fit a helmet into it?
Been trying to source a second hand one, no luck. So thinking about a new one.
But before splashing the cash (nearly £300) just wondering how useful they are compared to a givi. Cheers, Mark.

I don't know what it's litreage capacity is but I can fit my AGV TiTech in mine but not my AGV MTX because the peak is too long.

BTW, you can get other Al topboxes for less money new and second hand. :thumb

I have used a bmw adventure pannier as a top box on my adventure for the last three bikes. Takes a helmet and more, or a laptop briefcase etc etc . And it looks ok as well.

Givi can hold two crash helmets.

The bmw top box or pannier used as top box only holds one.

Best to find out what helmet you have and ask. My Shoei hornet doesn't fit in (too tall) into the std top box.

Me too, The RH pannier is the same as the top box but taller, both my lids fit easily (One at a time!) and I have an Arai Quantum and a Uvex Enduro Lid. I agree that it looks ok on an adventurer because the bike is "chunkier" than a standard GS and can carry off the bigger topbox IMHO.

A cheaper option may be to find a pannier with broken hinges (they all break eventually) and get some replacement metal ones as per http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124342

Thats what I did:rob

I think the best option is to use a pannier in place of the topbox.
It gives a much improved increase in capacity over the standard Adventure topbox and as long as you use the capacity for light things (such as storing helmets) instead of loading it up with heavy stuff it shouldn't cause any problems.

They don't all break.
Bought mine in 2003 and by then they came factory fitted with the SS wire strap which stops the lid opening over 90 degrees, no more straining of the hinges and therefore no more failures. Mine are used daily and are completely original.
