1150 - help bend my arm up my back

Today, so close to xmas......thinking of what santa has to offer..

I saw a 52 plated 1150 gs, servo brakes, 10k miles, panniers, wunderlich adjustable screen, FSH ( 3 services ), remus plus origional exhaust, get this, all for the negotiated sum of £6k

sounds good so far......BUT

has lived outside for the last year & all nuts/ bolt heads are rusty, including the disc bolts, (obviously the discs will clean once used)

now i've seen the thread about the stainless fastener kit, which will take time, but will smarten up the bike considerably...

Do i go ahead & buy this? what other components are prone to early retirement due to rust?

I'm planning on using the bike on a major europe trip this coming summer......

any thoughts appreciated to a newbie GS'er

That seems a good Price for a 52 palte. The 1150's seem to corrode on the fork brace but if thats all thats a concern it will last for ages. Ideal tool for touring Europe as well.

As long as it is a blue and white one then you should buy it immediately, because all the other colours rust terribly and aren't worth bothering with.

Depends how concerened you are about the look of the bike. Personally I wouldnt want the hassle of trying to clean it up. when I bought mine there was quite a bit of corrosion on it which I managed to get sorted under warranty, but I've also spent a bit replacing other parts.

I personally think if youve got doubts then give it a miss. Just keep an eye on the For sale section where you can get a lot better bike for not much more than this one

I have an 03 reg 5800 miles minter here, black, never used in rain, not used last winter, no corrosion AT ALL anywhere, all the extras you will realistically use,remus system+original (unused) evo brakes, A.B.S., heated grips, b.m.w. panniers, givi 52 litre top box, comfort seats, tall and standard screens, hugger, etc etc.

I've just bought a GS for xmas. Currently living off bread and water, but am happy with the bike.

Get a good deal and go for it. I moved from a new sportsbike to a GS and am enjoying the GS so much more. Just can't wait for summer now

thanks for the posts, but i think the origional bike i saw will be the one i buy, the dealer has said that its had a perfect history, along with one of steptoes' stainless steel fastener kits, it will put it back into good condition..

then it's the usual money pit of extra's.........
