I got 280 miles to a tank around the Highlands last week. The bike held £16.97 when I filled her up the following morning in Fortwilliam. I was well chuffed and so was my Tiger companion.

Up there with the have some fun brigade
As most of our bikes are "toys" why bother about consumption (no not TB) Even at our rip off gas prices it's insignificant compared to the purchase price of the bike & all the "essential" goodies we're adding to our steeds. S'pose you could be warned you were running a bit lean if you're getting 1000 miles or so per tankful
Have some fun, & she'll go better with some varied positions of that twisty thing on the right handlebar

Unless in traffic, two postions only.......off or on.
(hmmmmm no that's total bullshit actually......but mine does seem to be stoppered a lot of the time

No idea about my MPG.......but every 250 miles i fill her up.
And Chris is right.......I've actually had a near-arguement with a chappy at a petrol station 'cos he refused to believe i was paying for the right pump in my helmet and riding kit......'no bikes take £25's worth mate.....you've definately got the wrong pump......'

50 MPG
Ive found out how to get 50mpg ride around in the pouring rain for 200 miles, managed 52 mpg last night, it took some doing even allowing for the weather, and I was trying to be economical.

Generally get around 50 give or take a couple of mpg. Strange how fitting a set of TT 41l boxes and a Wunderlich screen seemed to knock it down by 2-3 mpg. Over almost 40000miles the average is 52mpg, but I'm one of these boring ones who sticks more or less to the speed limits.

they old girl (r1100gs) does abt 360 km for every 17 quid at 79.9 per litre which is +/- 48 mpg. not bad for a mixed commute along the a21 from robertsbridge to london bridge at a fair lick.

i'd have loved the tall (standard 1150 gearbox) sixth gear in my adventure. i was told that this was not possible. has anyone got one? has anyone changed to a standard box? i didn't take the short first gear option. fuel consumption seems to be around the lower of those mentioned in the poll.
i do like the short sixth. it's reminiscent of the five speed on the 1100 gs that i sometimes wish i'd never sold. i'd prefer the almost o/d status of the standard tho. my 1150 gs had the box replaced (00) model. (as did my orig r1100rse 04) all four bought new so no hiccups in the history. my 03 adv feels great, but i just would have liked a longer sixth for the continental tolls etc.

I think you'll find that almost every vehicle manufacturer sets their speedos about 10% over for a numner of reasons.
1. If it's 10% over and starts reading low they're unlikely to get sued by someone done for speeding
2. they've been browbeaten into dumbing down for Mrs Wifey with her Ford shopping basket who can't remember what f'ing indicators or mirrors are for and therfore need protecting from the speed fascists

The GS is the first vehicle I've owned since my first MkI escort that reads THAT wrong.
They cocked up the ratio of the drive on the GS.....simple as that.

I have just fitted a sebring Y piece and techlusion r259 box, new B*W air filter standard end can, and my fuel consuption has dived from 45mpg to about 38 mpg 
is this normal?
I have even tried not to be so wristy but this tankfull is showing similar low figures
I know the Y piece helps breathing and the R259 squirts more fuel but I may go back to stock and get a decent range before fillups again.
