Don't know how big the tank is so no idea of MPG...
You don't need to know the size of the tank. I found the easiest way to measure the MPG is to:

fill the tank to the brim,
reset the odometer to zero,
take the bike / car for a good long ride (to give an accurate average measurement),
fill the tank to the brim again,
make a note of the odometer reading and then
reset to zero again.

You then write the mileage on the till receipt (which then tells you how many litres / gallons you've needed to do the recorded mileage) because trust me, you wont remember the mileage by the time you get home - especially after you've had a

Eg on my last trip my odometer reading was 107 miles and the till receipt showed 10.71 Litres ie just under 10 miles a litre. To convert Litres to Gallons, just divide by 4.546 ie 10.71 Litres = 2.355 Gallons. Gives you a figure of 45 MPG. :thumb

Sounds a bit "anal" but a mechanic mate of mine suggested keeping regular MPG figures, as he reckoned that drastically reduced MPG figures may indicate a problem.

i just did a 631.5 mile ride in 13 hours on a mix of motorway, A and B roads loaded up with camping gear and got 53 mpg

I have ridden for over 30yrs and yet to work out any bike in that times mpg

These days it's a how far can I afford to go scenario rather than anything else for me So havin an idea if it does 35 or 40 or 50 mpg matters

I commute to central London from Cambridgeshire and the most I've had out of a single tank showed as 360 miles. Just worked it out to be 54.5, thats sat at an indicated 70mph as much as poss. Bloody boring but cheap as I can get it!

Hopefully tomorrow I'll have shit mpg

On the new (to me) 1150 Im getting 46-48. Pretty impressed with that and will do just fine for me

The reason for the inflated 1150 figures is the speedo is at least 10% fast so the figures are 10% plus.

I have a corrected speedo and get 45-48 on a run 42-45 urban, this with No cat, Sebring race can, K&N air filter, standard UK code plug.

The 1200 speedo is spot on by all accounts and the engine is much more efficient around the 50's.

how did you correct the speedo?

how did you correct the speedo?

Motorworks do a range of speedo drives that were originally for different bikes but fit the GS perfectly.

I fitted one that changed the indicate speed by around 4%, around half the error on the original.

It all depends on which tyres you use as well as how worn they are. Measure the rolling circumerference of old tyres before they are removed and the new when fitted:)

It takes some getting used to thinking that you are going slower and using more fuel.
