1150 or 1200?

You will never get a good answer to your question.

The folks with 1200s will say to get one of them
The folks with 1150s will say to get one of them
The folks with 1100s will say to get one of them

The question I'd ask myself is, would I buy a Mondeo or a Land Rover.

If its the former ... get a 1200
If its the latter .....get an 1150

Here is another question. why is it A 1200 and AN 1150 ?

Haere mai

I've got AN 1150, 03, twin spark servo and best colours of all blue and white. I believe it is the best of both worlds (until the servo breaks down which will then be surgically removed with a large mallet)
Do also agree with both elefantmanshawn and ringbolt's opinions.

".....I don't believe that the 2 spark is any better (Is the 1200 twin spark?....) Yes, the 1200 has always been twin spark. However I had a single spark 1150 and was very satisfied with it. As has been said, it is a question of what you can afford; My 1150 was a very good bike in all respects and there was never any 'need' to trade up to a 1200. That having been said I am now on my second new 1200 and am delighted with it - although I would have been richer and (almost) as happy had I hung onto my 2004 model. Having owned 10 BMW's over 30 years I have to say that each one has given me a great deal of pleasure; Perhaps my favourite was the R100RS - but I am a little long in the tooth for that now.

Since I was currenlty under the same dillema, although the stronger one was 1100 99, or 1150 02 I just wanted to clarify the thing about the brakes.
Till 02 all brakes were brembo (combined with ABS II or not). In 02 a slight change was made to the brakes and they were marketed as EVO. EVO does not mean SERVO and the callipers have BMW markings on it, although still made by brembo) (it can be combined with ABS II or not). In late 02 also the Integral ABS was marketed (EVO brakes + ABS/servo + combined braking). In 03 also the dual spark head came in existense. In Integral Systems from 03- not all callipers are made by brembo especially in the ADV models, some are made by tocico.

You cannot have dual spark and ABS without it being a (integral) servo one.
You cannot have single spark and brembo callipers AND servo.
If you dont have abs you also do not have servos.

Integral was meant to provide faster ABS cycle time, Dual spark to cover emissions requirements and to cure surging.

OK, thanks to everyone for the responses.

I'm pretty certain, then, that I'll be looking for the latest, lowest-mileage (although it sounds like that shouldn't be a mojor concern) non-Adventure 1150GS I can find, irrespective of ABS, servo brakes or any other options.

Thanks for the advice!
