Hello,

I have recently found a problem with my 2002 GSa seat lock.
I can remove the rear seat but the key will not turn far enough to release the front catch.
It is clearly a problem with the front catch.
I have dismanted the keylock to reveal the rod that activates the front catch but even pulling on it with pliers will not release it.
Wondered whether anyone has had a similar problem and if so any tips on solving it?

Any advice is most welcome.

Thanks

Charlie

Yep, first see if the seat fix points aren't bent anyhow then you got to completely dismantle it (the front mechanism splits in two so you can get access to the parts, also the rear mechanism, that's often the dirtiest and takes a lot of force to move and thus affecting the front as well), clean ALL the moving parts in the system - rails etc throughoutly, then put some decent amount of grease in (not too much though) - test it works smooth with little force needed to turn the key. Yer done. Works for years, even in dusty conditions. The seats come off so easy after that its scary and think it's a security issue, but they lock in place allright. :thumb2

Pull the rod while thumping vigorously downwards on the seat, to try to take the pressure off the hook / catch. Sit on seat while pulling rod, not your rod.

Hello,

I'm very confused... an 1150GSa has a single seat ?

The dual seat is in two parts (front and Rear).
The rear seat comes off easily, whilst the front will not budge.
I will get aother pair of hands and try bouncing on the seat whilst pulling the actuating rod as suggested.
Thanks for your tips fellas.

OP: The query is an Adventure model with two seats? Normally its one. Is it and Adventure model or Standard GS which is more likely to have two seats.

He's already answered that in both posts mate, it's been converted:beerjug:

Problem solved!

Found the problem, it was a noggin of plastic that had found it way between the front seat catch and the receiving slot (from where it came I know not).
I had top take off the aluminium seat/rack base to get at but once I could see the catch it was fairly straight forward.
Put some vaselene on the 4 seat lugs which also seems to make a big difference when removing and replacing.

Thanks for the useful contributions and advice.
