1150 second accessory socket -myth?

when I hook up my power socket, is it going to be best to wire up to the existing accessory socket, or can I hook up to a nearer power source without hacking into the loom too much?

BM do a accessory socket add on. Just unplug the plug on the back of the current external socket, and it just plugs in in parallel. Dead easy and you can move it around bikes if / when you sell it as long as you don't hack any holes in anything.

BTW there was a change in about 2005 for the plug type  1150 compatible ones fit the early 1200 GS's but not the later :(

any idea how much the 'official' bmw plug is? - gav is kindly sending me the Nippy Norman one, but I might be able to convince southport superbikes to loan me a plug to put on the end ;)

Hi Quarryman:)

The socket should be with you tomorrow.
You don't need to do anything to the loom. Just get a couple of metres of red and black wiring- 10 or 15A maybe- and connect straight to the positive terminal of the battery and earth. And wire in a fuse holder on the positive side. I've included some instructions with the socket. The biggest jobs are probably making the hole and removing the tank and puting it back on.
