Happened this weekend as it happens...... several times

Maybe more to do with Sportsbike riders...... or UK roads........ or the fact that the GS is such a good all rounder........?

That is my one big concern, I don;t know how the rest of the transmission will stand up to it, clutch easily enough resolved, but the rest of the driveline is probably a bigger issue.
What sort of limits do you think it would cope with Neil ? I know my BCR was around 100, but that'll have been at the crank.

The weakest points in the driveline are:
1. Clutch
2. Gearbox
3. Driveshaft
4. Finaldrive

You will brake all of it in the long run. Don't ask me how I know!

If I remember right the M97 (1100 gearbox) was rated max 130Nm. I don't know about the rating for the 1150 gearbox. But I guess it's about the same.

I'll have an update in a couple of weeks; off to Misano for the MotoGP via the French Alps and back over the Swiss ones........ I shall try and record mpg and highlight any issues but so far so good.....

Supercharger Update

Any updates as to how the wee beastie is performing...

Just got back this morning off the ferry from Hull having completed 2470miles in 7 days. Edited highlights include the Route Napoleon, Monaco Harbour, Urbino and Tavullia, Moto GP, Lake Garda, Stelvio Pass and the Nurburgring.

The supercharger performed faultlessly with no issues. The only problem I had was my rear brake caliper seizing on going through the Black Forest and the rear pads disintegrating. The pads were just backed off and I learned not to use the back brake for the remainder of the run. There is also a small fuelling glitch that has become more apparent with a few more miles; very small throttle openings seem to produce a hesitancy but hopefully a little dyno time can resolve this - nit picking really.

We rode through extremes of temperature from 35C down to 12C, brilliant sunshine, pouring rain and high winds. The heat is never good with the boxer, my feet always cook in hot weather but with the supercharger on the right hand side my right foot was much hotter in these conditions. I now know why the Italians ride in shorts and t-shirts!

I did a service just before we left and noticed that the right hand side valve clearances were out by a bus ride but the left hand side were perfect as I'd set them a year earlier. The bike had had the charger for 500miles or so then plus the time on the dyno so I'll check what they're like now when I get a minute.

I recorded all tank fills and mileages and measured mpg from 29 to 39 with an average for the trip of 33.9. All motorway riding was round the ton and the throttle wasn't spared on the twisties. I've yet to do a steady tank but mid 40 should be possible and before the conversion I only ever got 38-44 anyway. I managed to find some 100 and 102 octane and the bike ran much better on this than 98Ron.

So still happy. The bike got a lot of attention at the circuit in the private parking area which was fun! German petrol stations pulled a few admiriers as well. Anymore news and I'll keep you posted........

Just finished on the dyno last night - I got the call to say that she made 147bhp at 8000rpm - unbelievable as we were hoping for around 120. Also have 100ftlbs of torque from 5500rpm where the origonal torque curve started to dip.

Picking the bike up Thursday so more pictures after that.......

An FJR1300 gives 146 BHP and 99Ft lbs torque. Reckon you should fit wheelie bars to that bugger... I WANT ONE!!!!!

Does it have much effect on ground clearance while cornering though? Hard to tell from the pics.

Y2, Sorry for the delay in responding, not been checking my mails!
Ground clearance not an issue 99% of the time. I have decked out the corner of the intercooler and holed the discharge hose once but to be fair the road was really bumpy and I went in pretty hot, boots scrubbed the lot!
I keep in touch with Richard at TTS and he would probably make the intercooler with a little chamfer on it, it's not holed just battle scarred! The hose had to be replaced but they're only a tenner and it ran OK, just couldn't pull full revs as it was blowing. Gaffer tape is wonderful stuff.
I do like throwing the GS around and have the scars on the belly pan to prove it! As long as the rear preload is wound up, you shouldn't have a problem. My GS has a 17" front rim from the hypermotard and an Adventure rear shock so is also front end biased.
I've been all over Europe since the conversion, probably covered about 6000miles in total. I've got used to the power now but still enjoy the attention the bike gets!

Well I would be lying if I said it had been faultless but I've done the development work so you don't have to!
The supercharger itself actually let go last year, impeller shaft broke and before that started getting really noisy. TTS/Rotrex replaced it under warranty (2 years) but it was replaced with a new model, same size and everything but Rotrex won a contract to supply a car manufacturer with that model and had to improve reliability rate to 99.96%. That means I get an ultra reliable supercharger BUT Rotrex insisted that the oil reservoir had to be below the centreline of the supercharger to avoid a head of oil potentially flooding the blower at stand still. TTS tried a non return valve first and whilst it worked it seemed to put a back pressure on the reservoir that forced supercharger oil out of the breather and caused an oil leak. And a little oil goes a long way! The reservoir was originally located under the seat and you can see that the supercharger is quite low already. Anyway long story short I have a new reservoir that is on the opposite of the bike and located low enough to stop the oil leak and satisfy Rotrex and give me another 2 years warranty. I've been to Le Mans for the Moto GP and it ran faultlessly.

I don't think that there is in that whole Mad Max Interceptor way (I did ask Richard at TTS for a red button but we both pretended I never said it in the end). On the gas the exhaust blat noise is what you hear, on part gas because there is no waste gate, the pressurised gas passes back through the impeller and you get a noise that sounds a bit like squirrels in a liquidiser.
I haven't got a You Tube account but I'll see if I can get some video or sound bytes posted somehow.......
