1150 surging

Hello all you GS'ers,
has anyone experienced a very slight but just noticable surging with their single spark(pre '03) 1150.Bike has been serviced and all filters replaced.I'm suspecting maybe fouled injectors but would be interested to hear of anyone else's suggestions or experience of a similar fault.I should stress that the surging is very slight and probably would not concern some riders but something is definitely not quite as it should be.

At what revs, gear etc is surging as they all have a surge between 2-3000 revs, well mine does and i ride through it and i try not to ride the bike in between here, but the better set up the valves are the less noticable it is...

I've never noticed a surge on mine but I'm rarely running at less than 3k revs. I'll make a point of checking tonight.

Bubme, could it be you're rolling the throttle slightly when running over bumps? Even slight bumps might be enough.

If I hit a sunken manhole cover, for example, I feel a surge. As the bars move as the front wheel goes into and out of the bump I can see my throttle hand roll slightly.

Just my 2p worth.

Mine did it from new at around the 3k rev mark but I only ever noticed it on a fixed to slightly trailing throttle so it never bothered me.

Try NGK Iridium spark plugs,worked well on mine.

I've never noticed a surge on mine but I'm rarely
running at less than 3k revs or driving anywhere at less than 85mph all the time

Mine's always done it ever so slightly. Steptoe makes it go away for about 500 miles and then it'll slowly come back. Flatknuckles has the right idea.

Thanks for the replies,
I'm gonna run some injector cleaner through the system for a few miles and will double check valve clearances as suggested.
I'll post the outcome my efforts shortly.

could be the throttle bodies not balanced quite right-mine does it until i fettle them then it comes back again a few thousand later

I never mentioned anything about riding everywhere at 85mph. Mind you I do ride almost 1,000 miles per week on the motorway so...........


I checked last night. No surging at any revs but I do have iridium plugs fitted if that makes a difference.
