1150 v 1200

Hi All

at the moment i have a 1150 not adventure and i am toying with an upgrade to the 1200 not sure which model yet just wondered if anyone can give me the pros and cons of both and what year would be a good one to buy

also can anyone supply me with the dry weights of both so i can compare with the 1150

Phew, what a question. Can only speak from experience in that I swapped from 1150 to 1200. I was seduced by the lighter, more nimble ride and the, in my opinion, more up to date styling. It can only ever come down to what you prefer. Ride and decide. Most of the ownership issues flagged up have yet to materialise for me. I'm not making light of some of the bad experiences reported on here, just that I personally can't relate to them. Bike's done 22K on an 05 plate and is sound as a pound.

Oh, one word of caution, if buffeting is an issue, you'll be needing some time and patience to sort it. Not an issue on most A roads though. Again, not everyone has a problem either.

have noticed a lot of buffeting since moving from my RT thats why i was thinking of the adventure
 
Buffeting - I've given up looking for the Holy Grail and fitted a small bikini screen, clean air and no buffeting :bounce1
 
IIWY going from a 1150 to a 1200 I'd try the GSA first. Better screen for most and has winglets which many say help. Comes with extra lights / crash bars / spoked wheels compared to the lightweight model.

IMHO, the 1200 GSA rides more like the 1150 and has the presence of the older bike.
 
I am lucky enough to own and ride '02 R1150GS (40k kms) and '04 R1200GS (60k kms).
The R1200 is a lighter bike, more power, more agile, better brakes, better lights, smoother. Back wheel comes out without disc.
The R1150 is a great bike too, but the weight (+30kg ?) is telling. Brakes ok but not as good as servo on R12.
If you trade up for a R1200GSA, you will not save any weight over the R1150GS.

Only issue on R1150 was cam chain noise, pretty well cured by fitting newer type lhs.
Only issue on R1200 is not enough time to ride it...

And don't be put off by all the negative posts on here about 1200's. Some break down, most don't.

(take a look at the numbers on the fuel pump controller sticky for example)

I went from an 1150 to a 1200 and wished I'd went for the Adventure after a few hundred miles. Traded the 1200 for the Adventure and apart from the hole in my wallet, am very happy.
