Looking for advice if poss - I have an 02 ADV and I'm sure the rear shock is u/s - bike has done 18,000 mls - the selling BMW dealer wasnt convinced it needed replacing when I bought it - does anyone know if the shock is covered under BM warranty ??

+ Even more confused after reading a an MCN tyre test that said Anakees gave a feeling that felt like poor shock damping - these are fitted to my bike !
Its Def not as planted as my previous 1150 gs - tried all usual damping turning and screwing of knobs etc aahhh !!

Check the paralever bearings , my shock felt as if it was on the way out but it was the bearings

18K is a bit too soon for a srd shock to be knackered (unless used off road or two-up etc).Does it leak at all?.
What tyre pressures are you running and can you feel any movement when you try and move the rear wheel/swing arm?.

My 1150s first shock failed and was replaced under warranty at 4k, that failed at 12k. I gave up on BM shocks and bought a Maxton

It won't be covered under the original warranty.

have you tried adjusting the damping with the black knob on the shock? both of mine lost the damping completely. Adjusting the damping screw didn't make any difference at all.

At 35K my front shock seems to be flaky but still not leaking. The rear one seems fine but as I fancied a pair of those fancy Wilbers that everyone seems to rave about I'm replacing both (std 1150GS).:)

A note of caution however. New shocks duly arrived, front was the right size rear about 18mm shorter than the original.

The supplier (UK) says that the factory in Germany have sent the wrong units so they have both gone back today and I'm now awaiting the correct ones. Apparently they were for an 1150R.

I wonder how many other people get the wrong spec? If the length had been correct I would have fitted it and maybe not had the ride quality that I should have got.
