Had a search for oil but couldnt find a specific thread, just wondered what people are putting in the 1150, my local dealer puts fully synth in now, but damn expensive and expensive to top up, I am still topping up although i think its tailing off, but do short journeys, so wont help.
A few years ago fully synth wasnt really recommended for BM's I remember as it never lets them run in?
Had a browse in halfords but couldnt see anything suitable? :comfort

Man who likes taking chances with an oil thread....:augie
Use 15/50 mineral or semi-synth if you're feeling rich.SF/SG or later.
Its only an old tractor engine,so nowt fancy needed.

Castrol multi grade is I as good as anything.Thats strait from the horses mouth and I have a letter from them to prove it.I use Halfords motorcycle oil though, not too expensive and it says on the can what its for.Im sure a million of you will disagree though.I also know this subject has been covered a million times.:blagblah

Do not use motorcycle specific oil - It's intended for bikes with a wet clutch and integral gearboxes.

The bmw has a dry clutch and seperate gearbox oil. .

I ran mine in on mineral oil for 6000 miles, then switched to a good quality 20/50 semi-synthetic. As it relies on the oil for cooling and lubrication I think its worth using good quality oil of the correct spec (refer to owners handbook) I use Rock Guardian or Silkolene Super4 .:thumb2

.

You should have a read of Wapping's marvellous tome on the multitudes of possibilities for metal lubrication

here

Welcome aboard by the way...:thumb

Hi and Welcome

'bin using Morris Lubricants V-Twin 20/50 for a long while now.

I buy in 25l drums @ £101.20 (£4.05l) and meets all the correct specs.

At 115k my old girl still sounds sweet.:)

Dazlove

I use beef dripping. Low temperature viscosity isn't very good, but it's fine as soon as the engine warms up a bit:thumb

Oil

Thats all bollocks, the ONLY stuff to use is Mazola corn oil, make sure you cook at least one portion of chips (crinkly chips are best) and youll be fine
or just read the manual.
