Apologies if this has been covered before but I could do with some advice ref charging the battery on my 05 adventure.
The battery is completely flat due to lack of use over winter.
Is there a way of restoring the charge without removing the battery.
Thanks in advance.

If you have got an optimate or bmw charger you can recharge it but it will take a while.

I'm not sure if it would have caused any problems.

You may have a socket on the beak or another one down by the starter (left foot)
just plug your charger into anyone of those and it will charge the battery.

If you dont have an Optimate/BWM plug, remove the seat and tank bolt on RH side and lift the rear of the tank enough so you can get battery charger croc clips on the terminals. You will have to jam something soft between the raised tank and battery to keep it from falling.

Where's the best place to get an Optimate?
There does seem to be some kind of socket close to the starter - adjacent to a terminal covered by a rubber stopper with a + on it.
Does the Optimate come with the necessary connector?

If your battery is a gel type you've probably had it, mine went flat (not my doing, stuck on a ship) charging was a complete waste of time new battery required. Good luck. Optimates do not come with a bmw type plug, try a caravan showroom they often have these at a good price.
dave ( new battery) GS.

To charge the battery,Take the starter motor cover off ( one bolt,30seconds), and connect the battery charger live to the big brass nut on the starter motor, and the charger earth to a footrest or other earth.

I have an optimate, and they are good. However, I'm not keen on the "it'll bring back your battery from the dead" argument.

IMHO, once a battery's failed once, they never really recover properly and will always let you down sometime important, especially if you have an alarm. I'd say get a new one - they're not that dear, and you'll have done the job properly.

Let the slagging commence....

BMW battery charger (kindly loaned by Blue Bell Crewe) seems to have resurrected the battery for now!
