Hi,

I need to replace the battery on my 1150gs, Is there any cheaper options available in Brussels, Belgium. The BMW dealer price is €166.

Thanks,

Price/quality balance

Somewhere there must be some middle ground, I want to buy a new battery for my 1150 whilst we are back in the UK for a few weeks. I don't want to buy the cheapest and find problems but am looking for good quality at a reasonable price. Anyone had any experience?

Thanks

I just had a Varta lead & acid battery (for BMW bikes) put in my GS. £58.

Sealed original - about the best value there is. Try a BMW dealer, or Motoworks or Motobins. About 80 squidgies, my origianl is still going 6 years down the line on one and died this winter on the other.

I had a Varta on my bike too... it didn't last 2.5 years. despite the bike being used daily.. with no power hungry gadgets.. hell.. I hardly use the heated grips as my winter gloves make em superfluous. So in my opinion those batteries are junk. (sorry to be blunt - but I expected better)

I replaced it with an Exide Gel.. the OE battery for these bikes.

just a few days ago a chap posted about a 19 amp Lucas Gel.. for £50 + £3.95 postage.

thats an excellent price. linky - http://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/shop/pr...entName=Motorcycle+Batteries&DepartmentID=155

A little late coming for me.. I paid almost £20 more for the Exide. never mind eh. However I fully expect it to last anything up to 10 years.... certainly a LOT longer than 2.5

Battery Unibat dry lead acid 20amph (R850/R1100/1150R/GS/RT/RS/S/C)
ELA59011
Supplied dry with acid pack

£52.88 inc VAT from Motorworks

They're a waste of money too.. see the thread below.. what Motorworks themselves had to say about this particular battery is.. 'interesting' at least.

Fitted one to my 1150GSA last March and by Christmas if I left the bike unstarted for more than a few days it didn't have enough juice to fire it up.

Struggled on with it and an optimate until last month, but ended up having to jump start it every time. Motorworks were their usual helpful selves, they load tested it, which was easy enough as I live just over the hill from them and pronounced it dead, then offered me an odyssey for the difference in cost. Their opinion is that the battery is a bit on the small side for these bikes and they need the best battery they can get. I know some people don't agree, I'm just passing on what they told me.

I do run quite a few electrical extras on my bike, especially in winter (heated vest & grips and spotlights being the highest load) so I have just accepted it kills batteries quicker than I would like.

My bike has done about 13k miles in the last year.

I`ve got an unused ODYSSEY PC680, still in the box, which is probably the best battery for the job, will sell it for £70 inc delivery.:)

I had a 155 euro qoute for a OEM batt. from a BMW dealer here in the netherlands.

i got a oddessy PC680 from ebay.nl delivered for 116 euros... just don't forget to ask for the vertical posts to mount the terminals.. ( got them for free)

My bike has never started so crisp and quickly...never seen the ABS warning lights since

i see he's put his price up a little, but it arrived quickly and well packaged.

I called my local battery supplier today for a middle of the road wet battery quoted £38.00 for a 20 ah

I bought a new battery fro my sons car from vauxhall today, no maintenace , sealed 3 year gtee, GM battery for £30.00 plus the VAT 50 ah

and the point is ! i replaced both of these batteries 3.5 years ago at the same time, the bike one was £21.00 plus VAT and the car was £27.00
How come the bike battery has gone up so much ? ( both batteries are from the original supplier and same model )

Easy enough to answer.. the price of lead has doubled over the past year.

and the value of the £ has fallen. Seems like you got a bit of a bargain.. once the current conditions feed through.. prices will rise yet again.

OK... i understand that, but why has the exact same bike battery increased by 55% abd the exact sane car battery increased by 11 %
Logic would tend to predict the car batterey should be the biiger increase as it got more than double amount of lead
Or it just because its a 'bike' and they are used to paying high prices
