Hello People ! :bow

I received USED cylinder head protectors with 6 bolts and 2 sets of washers ( 6 ordinary washers and 6 thin bent ones ) for my 1150gs 2001 from Motorworks this afternoon and will attempt installing them tomorrow. No instructions supplied obviously.

Can somebody advise on installation instructions? I hope it should be pretty straight forward ... except not sure about torque settings and where to put washers.

By the way, thanks to Motorworks for such a NOT great service :fiddle ! It looks like that one of the plastic protectors received such a strong impact in its previous life that internal structure ( three plastic wells that hold rubber washers ) completely CRASHED !!! :bash

I will attach picture later and give them a call. Quite disappointed to receive such a crap from such a highly recommended company.

Thanks.

Before you go in with all guns blazing just talk nicely to them first. I've found them to be extremely friendly and helpful people who offer guarantees on their used parts.

You may find that they are as upset, well almost, as you about sending out dodgy bits :)

I agree with Packer, talk to Motorworks first, they are very helpful, when I bought a replacement seat for my 1150GS, they sent a seat that didn't fit properly, and gladly exchanged it.
The fitting is straight forward, the bolt holes will line up with existing bolts on the bike, just swap for the longer bolts, with washers on the bolts before attaching, and just do them up tight. I've attached a few photos from my bike, to show where they mount on,hope this helps.

Plus 1 on this.
Motorworks missed an email I sent after placing an order to add items to my original order.
They posted the additional item virtually post free and I am in New Zealand.
Excellent service and they go that little bit extra to look after customers in my experience.

Yep me too my remus exhaust had a rivet missing that I noticed a week after fitting.

They had it picked up from me did what they needed to do and sent it back within 2 days. There customer service is excellent

Forgot to add, long bolts on the rear and bottom fittings, short one on the front.

Thanks guys! Had a chat with Motorworks today. Packer was right :teacher - they were more upset about it then me. lol
Motorworks will send me another part + correct size fitting bolts free of charge.

Good result just as expected.

Someone above posted "just do them up tight" with regard to the bolts. Take care, they are only 6mm in alloy so tight is a relative term. Get it wrong and you'll be cursing again and paying for helicoils to be fitted.

Just nip them up and check them regularly until you're confident that they aren't coming undone. A hex bit in a magnetic screw driver is a good way to limit the force applied.

Of course, you are right Packer, I should have said tighten them up adequately!:thumb2
