Hi all,

I've been riding my BMW 650FL for 3 years now, been dreaming about a 1150gs for a while (and reading your forum frequently!), been on a few test rides, etc.

The other day I saw this silver 1150gs for sale for £3000 in the same motorcycle rank that I use daily at work - think its a X-reg., its got 93k! and rather corroded fork braces and rusty bolts, even the tank has a rusty spot on the front underside edge....otherwise it looks ok & has ABS and heated grips, etc. I spoke to the owner on the phone (he seems a decent guy buying himself a 1200gs before xmas - he might even be a member here...). Apparently its been serviced regulary buy bmw and recently mobitec - 2 owners.

Is that a good deal?
Is the corrosion a problem/expensive to clear-up?
Are the 93k miles a concern?
How much can I expect to get for my F650 x-reg?

Questions, questions, and more questions...

Thank you for your help!

Sounds good what's his number?

I've a 2000 with 50K and corrosion... keep the corrosion it adds to the character.

Buy it stick some Ohlins on and you'll have a fine machine

actually, its got an ohlins rear shock already....plus some tourtech gear (fog light, hand guards, rear mud guard, etc....) & an aluminium top box.

how much do panniers & rails go for these days?

does that mean I dont need to worry about 93k?

Depends on how it has been ridden and how well it has been looked after. I’ve seen oilheads with over 300,000 miles on the clock so 93K isn’t really that much. I’d want to find out what parts have been replaced – i.e. clutch and possibly gearbox and then take it for a good test ride before committing but 3K with an Ohlins rear and other goodies is certainly a pretty good price. If you don’t want it, PM me coz I know a man who does!

Thank you everyone for your quick responses so far - 300k miles, wow!

I am still in two minds about the corrosion issue, its looking rather tatty generally with severe bubbling at the fork & fork brace.

The bike is in London.

I will meet the guy on friday to have a look at some of the service history, to check (as suggested) what has been replaced when & have a general chat about the bike. If I still like it I will ask for a test ride and see how that goes...

If I dont take it, of course I will forward the contact details (I'll ask the guy first tho') here by Friday.

Jonathan.

severe bubbling at the fork - That is quite normal on an 1150. They all do that Sir.

ok, I had a good look at yesterday & the service history looks very good! clutch had been replaced, gear box bearings done recently, etc.
He spend a LOT of money putting it right. I did not have a chance going for a test ride as yet, but I spent half of today at at Vines and ended up getting one of their bikes instead.....pick up next sunday!!!!

Here are his details should any of you be interested in this bargain:

Congratulations on the new bike and thanks for the contact details – someone’s going to get a bargain by the sounds of it.

Thanks Jon

Good luck with the new bike.

Bloody Vines! - thats why the 1150GS is for sale - they managed to flog me a new 1200GS!

If anyone else is interested the bike can be viewed in central London or Surrey.

Why spend that much on 1 that is corroded and has done all they miles when I have 1 with no corrosion and only 27k for a little over £4.000.
