Hi there.

When torque-ing up the top nut of the front suspension the body of the shock spins which complicates the task.

Somehow you need to counter-hold the body of the shock but there's no way my grip can counter-hold 45Nm.

How do others complete this task ?

Thanks very much.

allen key down centre of shock strut. ..... and big feckoff spanner.

Use 'the force' for torque cause you cant use torque wrench without special tool.

It's an Ohlins shock with nothing to stop it twisting, sadly.

Oh well, I just did what I could.

Took it for a spin and it seems OK.

Thanks anyway.

I tighten with a spanner then torque it, when the friction is usually enough for the torque wrench to work...

In situations like this I use a pneumatic bolt tool (whatever it is called in english.... The "schwiieeeee-knock-knock-knock-knock" drill looking thing you usually use for removing car lugnuts).
Give it a careful "knocking" with the tool and feel it up with a wrench (torque variety if you are so inclined). Repeat as required until desired result is achieved.
