I believe that it is possible to increase the capacity of the GS fuel tank by drilling out inside the filler cap? Is it as easy as it appears? Is there a significant increase in capacity by doing this?
Quite simple... remove all the bolts that hold on the neck. Remove with the rubber ring. Drill two say5mm holes either side of the neck near the top. Then refit.
Try not to drop the bolts in the tank
If I run mine when the fuel light goes on for about 20 miles I can squeeze 24 litres in a 23 litre tank and there is still fuel in the tank when I fill up. I think you can get another 2-3 litres in.
I rode from Amersham to Capel Curig in Snowdonia on a tank of fuel... 237 miles and the bike was fully loaded with panniers and tent etc.
Worth doing, takes about 30 mins
ps... you might want to drop in to the "High i'm new here please be gentle" to say hello and introduce your self.
I've done this simple mod, and it's well worth it if you're doing some long distance stuff.
Just don't fill the tank right up, if you're not going to ride immediately, particularly in warm weather..... You'll end up with a lake of petrol under your bike!

Ive done this mod too but ive taken off the black over flow
breather thingy and put on a piece of pipe and run it up as
high as possible the most ive got out of a tank on along
ride is 235 miles.
the rubber o ring will be fine if you leave it to dry over night
the petrol seems to expand it once its dry it'll fit fine
had mine off a few times for this very mod 5mm holes and short rubber tube
dosent go far on youre mod though den
