Does anyone know (or know where I can find out) if an 04 1150R gearbox will fit ok in an 2000 1150GS? Really need to get mine going again, and seen the R box for sale locally. Could be a cheaper fix than getting mine repaired.
( I have done a search, but not found anything)

The "R" gearbox will fit straight on no problem.
It will however have the lower 6th gear;the same gear as the GSA.
I know this because i have removed an R box from a GS to replace it with a GS one.
Just to check though....does the R box have the letters JAQ stamped on it (near the flywheel inspection hole)?.

LDT,

As Colban says, the three letter code on the front RHS of the gearbox will tell you about it.

Here is a link to a page that gives more detail (scroll down towards the bottom). The information has been gathered by Anton from a variety of sources - but he knows his stuff (he built me a custom gearbox). From his description, the R1150R (my highlighting below) should have the tall 6th, not the Adv short one...

GAF - black R1200C (eBay)
GBE - 02 silver R1150RT fluidj

GAL - 02 silver Roadster tall 6th Phil Kavanaugh

GAN - 02 Adventure

JAE - 03 R1200CL silver on eBay

Thanks guys, amazing amount of usefull info. From what I can see I may end up with a different 6th gear, but it could also be the later and supposedly better Evo box. So hopefully I'll get it tomorrow and give it a go. Just need the time to fit it. Cheers :beerjug:

Picked the box up tonight, paid £150 for it, didn't think that was too bad:nenau not too sure what's normal!! Input shaft has some wear, but should give a few miles and I can get mine repaired at leisure and stick it back in later on. So all I need now is time to do it:augie doesn't help I'm away over the next two half term weekends.
It's actually an JAO, not sure what that means, think the German list says something about like a JAQ!! But my Germans dire:blast

JAO is accident embossing for the JAQ. I think that means that when they did the embossing on the casing they missed out the tail of the Q so they went out as O.

The box is JAQ normal first and short 6th for the R1150R.

I've got a Rockster gearbox fitted to my 1150 which has the shorter top gear. I found that motorway cruising speeds were a little limited so changed the final drive to an R1100S unit which has higher gearing. Greatly reduced RPM at sensible cruising speeds.

Good luck with the swap:thumb
