I bought a set of spare wheels for my 2003 1150GS ABS a while back. I lobbed TKC's on them and used them for a couple of months. All appeared fine.
However I noticed a post by Steptoe saying that all rears wheels weren't the same. I took mine off and sure enough the brake pad was worn more on one side than the other, so telling me that there is an offset problem.
So my question is how can I correct this or do I just need to sell the wheel. Is there any spacer that I need to buy to correct the problem or is it that they are manufactured differently?

TIA.

rear brake pads

Dave,

Don't panic. As I found out yesterday the original bmw pads are thicker on the outboard (piston) side as this picture of a new pair shows:

the number stamped into the metal is different too, the inner pad is 21488, the outer 21489.

The only physical difference is the ABS ring mounting location between the early wheels and the later wheels.

They all fit, and they all wear out the pads the same. Most rear pads for the GS have one side thicker than the other, not just BMW pads.

Awwww feck. I saw the pads like that and threw a perfectly good set out!!!

I've never noticed the difference in them. Ahh well you live and learn.

Thanks both.
