1150GS started to misfire - possible reasons?

I have an 1150GS 2003, 28000 miles, had 24000 mile service except for fuel filter change a few months back. In the last couple of days, the bike has developed a kind of misfire. On idle, it is hovering up and down slightly around the 1000rpm mark but is a little stuttery. When I accelerate in any gear, it is also a little stuttery and doesn't seem to pull properly. It did idle very smoothly and also used to accelerate cleanly but , for whatever reason, is now feeling a little rough. Its not something that has come on gradually - I noticed it feeling very different yesterday.

I have had a quick search and seen mention of TPS and strobes and coils going but am hoping it may actually be something much simpler (to me at least). I will go and look in the Haynes manual now but if anyone can provide some pointers that would be great. :thumb
 
:thumb keep it simple at first... check no cables snagged, airfilter seated correct, no loose electric leads ie ht leads, check your plugs after a short blast.... fingers crossed it'll be summit simple.
 
did you wash it recently? if so you might have dislodged one of the throttle cables at the throttle body end. make sure both ends are sitting properly in their housings.
