Hello all,

Does anybody know of somewhere in the Dublin area where you can get an1150gs starter motor repaired or even get parts for them? Or possibly a second hand re-conditioned one? Im fairly sure my starter is knackered.

Cheers.

re: starter

Hi,
Thanks for the reply,

Im not 100% sure its the starter, but about two mornings ago I went to go to work and all that happened was the machine gun like noise from the starter. I thought it was the battery so replaced that, but still the same. I cant even jump it off the car, putting the leads on tho the starter terminals....
Its like the starter is drawing a massive ammount of current.
This just happened overnight, and I was riding it the day before with no probs...
Ill take the starter out tomorrow hopefully.

Cheers.

Thanks very much joe,

Ill have a look at it again tomorrow and let you know,
It could well be the solonoid...

Thanks again,
Pat.

PAt be careful you may burn it out

The magnets on the casing inside these have a bad tendancy to fall off and jam the armature

Any place that repairs car starters can do them they aare just D6RA Valeo

A lot of remault and citroen use them BUT be careful of rotation some turn the wrong way

The whole front alloy casing of yours just undoes with three torx screws and swops onto the replacement

starter

Well I took the starter assy. off the bike today for inspection. It looks ok, all the magnets are there where they should be and the brushes have plenty of meat left on them, also the armature is free to rotate, as is the planetary gears...
So I still cant confirm if this is the problem.

Other electrical wierdness has started to happen, namely the rpm needle wandering around of its own, the RID going on and off, and all the dash lights being really dim, until I hit the kill switch then they all go back to normal.

Any ideas anyone?

Starter

Hi Joe,

I decided to post it in the oilhead section as I think it is more than just the starter. I may take you up on your offer and purchase one of your spare starters, Ill send you a PM..

Cheers,

Pat.

Its running!!

Just got the bike to start today for the first time! :bounce1

After swopping over starter and some relays from a mates bike, with absolutely no fix, I started to take the wiring loom apart and all the connectors under the tank, cleaned them up and when I put it all back together again, the bike fired up with no problem at all!

It is quite strange, but I cannot reproduce the fault now so I dont know exactly where the problem came from. But I am glad its back on the road again...

Thanks for the input guys.

I've been there so often; disassemble clean but spot no real fault. Re assemble and it works. :thumb2
Of course I've been here also; disassemble clean think I've spotted a fault. Repair apparent fault. Re assemble and it still does not work. :blast

I prefer the first one for sure.

Block conectors

At a guess id say it was the block conectors if the dash lights etc started to give trouble aswell.Happened two friends of mine in the last two years, one with no dash lights and at about 4rpm they would work again and the other just wouldn't start. It is worth giving them a shot on contact spray when doing a service:thumb2
