i`m newbie so nothing sounds daft, what do you mean exactly by lever free? it is still operating if that what you mean, but everytime i change gear i have to play with clutch wait for the rev.

Hi :)

Try removing the linkage between the lever and the gearbox. Give the two ball joints and cups they sit in a good clean and then grease them up :mmmm . Put back together and see if it's better. If it is you'll probably want to get 2 new felt washers and redo the clean / greasse thing when you fit them.

thank you for the answer i have crash bars fitted, do i have to take all that off or is it much easier to do what you just said?

No need ...

... to remove crash bars, just be prepared to chase the little circlip into the far corners of your garage :augie

The gear linkage gets clogged up with dirt and road grime. It is an easy job to strip, clean and grease the linkages. A 15 minute job and you will feel a big difference.

Gear lever

You wil find the problem is the pivot wher the lever pivots on the footrest bracket. This is very tight as it's put on with lock tite and will require heating to undo it. The fixing is an allen screw good idea to take the foot rst off for better access but do heat it up first. Clean and grease the bolt /pivot and reassemble. Do the ball joint as well but the stiffness is the pivot, It's happend to,many of us but it is TIGHT so use the hot air gun first.
dave ( I hate christmas ) GS roll on 2010.
