This has become quite an important issue for me, after I bought a bike I expected to cheap to run (an F650GS) that subsequently cost me £405 for an 18k service..

I've owned my 1150 since September, and I've paid out £455 so far, exclusive of insurance. Some of this is 'start-up' cost in terms of used system luggage, satnav mount, beak etc, so I expect it to slow down.

But, on average, how much is the TOC for an 1150, per year or per month?

Specifically then, how much did you spend on your 1150 in the last 12 months?

Trips, tyres, services, farkles, and so on.

I dont think you can count stuff like panniers as a running cost, the 1150 is a lot thirstier than the 650, they can be pretty good on tyres, I project 10k for my current set, servicing can be reasonable if you go the DIY route, other than that it all depends on how many miles you do.

I had for just under 3 years did 99,976 miles and it cost me £500+ per month.

That was costs for servicing by BMW, fuel, tyres, repairs(not to many), insurance, tax, extras panniers, satnav etc. Did not take into account depreciation.

It was that what caused me to sell it as I couldn't really afford the to run it, being overworked and underpaid, but after 19 months without a GS could not go any longer and purchased another one. Have decided not to ride it as much, had it it now for 8 months and have only increased the milege by 12560 miles....so holding back on ridding......for now anyway.....:D

My last year with 1150GSA

Start mileage 18000
Current mileage 31000
I completed the 24000 service and 30000 myself.

Service bits:

-20 crush washers for fluids (all oils every 6000, now going to start changing at 3000 as it just feels so much nicer after an oil change... got some spares in case I loose a few and a few just to have around if I feel like changing fluids... only about 30 p each anyway.) Cost: £6 tops
-1 air filter cost: £12
-2 oil filters cost: £24
-1 fuel filter cost: £11
- 2 new o-rings for fuel tank cost: £6
-4 spark plugs cost: £24
-2 coil sticks (one of mine stopped working so I now have a spare old one) cost: £135
-1 alternator belt cost: £12
- 2 sets rear brake pads cost: £30
-8 litres of fuchs silkolene 20-50 oil cost: £50
-3 litres 80-90 gearbox/final drive oil cost: £18 (got one free)
-1 k1200RS mirror as I broke one in a crash (£40)
-1 can hammerite to touch up crash bar cost: £8 (still not done)
-Brake and clutch fluids cost: can't remember... £25 maybe... no idea to be honest.
-2 can ACF50 for winter riding cost: £20?! (can't remember but bought from NN)
- 1 set of conti trail attacks cost: £136
-1 used TB balancing thingy to do it myself... £35
-will replace rocker cover when motorworks get a spare in used as it works fine albeit a bit worse for wear... but I'm not pretty so my bike doesn't need to be either!
- insurance for 1 year cost: £190
-travel insurance for going to europe cost: £65

Other stuff was not needed i.e. muffs, screen, airhawk, tools etc etc.

Learn to service it yourself and with the money saved buy some tools. I got most of mine from halfords and army surplus shop in industrial estate. :beerjug:

Over 30k a year?! I did 5-years of all-weather riding and did about 16k per annum.

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar :beerjug:

That's about £600, give or take a few kebabs and a bottle of Smirnoff, so £50(ish) a month.

I can live with that.
