1150GS, twin spark, 2005.

Just finished servicing the bike. Can anyone please tell me how to confirm that the TPS is set correctly?

All my manual says is "Adjust throttle-valve potentiometer with
BMW MoDiTeC after installing." I assume I need to measure the voltage on teh centre pin and set it to xx mV with th ethrottle closed, but what is the magic number?

Also throttle balance - Is it just a case of connnecting the gauges then adjusting the brass screws on the throttle bodies till both are equal?

Thanks in advance, Mark

Do a search for TPS setting -lots of info in here - basically, with a meter across the two end pins of the four pins, and with the ignition on you want the reading to be anywhere between 360 and 390.

See which measurement your bike prefers as they all like something different.

The brass screws on the throttle bodies only adjust the idle.

The important throttle body balancing under load needs to be adjusted using the cables.

Thanks Steptoe.

I did search, and found lots of references to TPS but no actual numbers.

Do I gather from what yourt say about the brass screws that they are air bleeds around the throttle plate? Looking at the casting that is what I would haev guessed they are.

Would the balance procedure be close the brass screws, wind it up to 4000 rpm and balance it using the cables, then drop back to idle and balance it using the screws?

Cheers, Mark

No need to close the brass screws - they pass so little air it's not important. The important thing is to balance them under load at about 3000-4000rpm. Once this is set, it is easy to keep them balanced in the future.

In your experience as a BMW motorcycle mechanic, is it or is it not important to balance the TB's under load or is it enough to adjust them while standing?

TPS and TB balancing is a different story.
You balance TB's first with screws and then with cables in revs.
